Whiting An idea that was nothing more than a dream 5 years ago, is a reality today thanks to the tireless and sometimes rather unorthodox efforts of a group of dedicated citizens and elected officials determined to make sure that higher education had a deep and lasting foothold in the Uintah Basin. In about eight months the $5.2 million addition to the Utah State University Uintah Basin branch cam pus will be completed. The 34,000-squar- e foot facility will house a large open-ai- r library complete with archive section, 10 offices for faculty members, a area, a large commons area, one classroom which large will accommodate about 80 students, two broadcast studios and four smaller receiving instructional stations. An outdoor courtyard has been designed to add to the atmosphere of a true college campus setting. Site work began last spring. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Oct 21. 1999. The new addition is scheduled for completion November 30, 2000. U N IAAE R S I JiYi i Utah State Universitys Uintah Basin Branch Campus has an enrollment of over 1,200 students each semester. 8 Educational Opportunities I. Three associate degrees are available in addition to 27 baccalaureate and masters degrees. A variety of minors and endorsements are also available. 2 USU credit is fully transferable to any other college or university in the United States. 1 Students can take classes during the summer and prefall sessions before they leave tor classes in the fall. 4. It's never too late to take classes or cam a degree. 5. ' Concurrent enrollment students can earn an associate degree while attending high school (tuition and fiees are free to concurrent enrollment students). Savings Students save an estimated $6,000 per year in housing, travel, and related expenses. Cost Tuition and books cost approximately $2,500 per year. There is no cost for tuition and fees for high school concurrent enrollment students.
