Show T June 9. 1998- - Page 13 (lintah Basin Standard Nine will seek title of 1998 Duchesne County Rodeo Queen Nine young ladies from Duchesne County will show judges their skills in horsemanship and reigning, speech, modeling end interviews on June 10 & 11 during the 1998 Duchesne County Rodeo Pageant. Younger girls will be vying for the titles of Duchesne County Rodeo junior princess and princess. The competition will begin on Wednesday, June 10, at 6 p.m. at the Duchesne High auditorium where the speech, modeling, and interview portions will take place. The horsemanship and reining portions of the competition will be held on Thursday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at the Duchesne County Fair Park Rodeo Grounds. The awards ceremony will be immediately following in the Cliff Mickelson Building. The pageant is free to the public. Those seeking the title of rodeo queen include: Rebecca Dean, 16, is die daughter of George and Mary Beth Dean ofRoosevelt She will be a junior at Union High this year. She eijoys music, riding her horse Chance, and being with her friends. April Elkins, 18, of Tabiona, is the daughter of Frank and Ellen Pippy. Her interests include sports, horse rodeo, and herding cattle in Wyoming during the summer. She would like to attend college and earn a degree in land management 4-- Tiffany Ivie, 15, is the daughter of Robert and Linda Ivie of Duchesne. Her hobbies include l, basketball, volleyball, and riding her horse. She attends Duchesne High and is a active in FFA and horse Cheri Prescott 17, is the daughter of Lynn and Gwen Prescott of Neola. She will be a senior at Union High this year. She plans on going into the nursing field. She eqjoys riding horses, being outdoors, meeting people, and having fun. Terra Harris, 16, is the daughter of Clint and Ronda Crook ofTabiona. She attends Tabiona High where she is involved in basketball, volleyball, and rodeo. She enjoys swimming, shopping, riding horses, and ' horse Stephanie Helms, 15, is the daughter of Mike and Kriss Kofford of ML Home and Floyd and Lori Helms of Vernal. She will be a senior at Altamont High this fall. She has been competing for eight years and queen contests. in horse Kami Lazenby, 16, is the daughter of Bobby and Laura Lazenby of Tabiona. She attends high school in Tabiona. She enjoys sports and playing the piano. Kimmie Shiner, 18, is the daughter of Bike and Bonnie Shiner of Altamont. She graduated from Altamont High as an honor student She has lettered all four years soft-bal- 4-- in High School Rodeo. She will be competing in the Miss Rodeo Utah Pageant this summer. She will continue her education at USUs Uintah Basin Branch Campus on a rodeo scholarship. NaTawni Quick, 15, is the daughter of Paul and Deanne Quick of Neola. She will be a sophomore at Union High this fall. Her hobbies include playing the piano, camping, fishing, and hiking. She loves going places, meeting new friends, and helping others. To make reservations please rail Senior RSVP or volunteers admitted free. 722-451- Local teams to participate in the Utah Summer Games By Sarah Colton The annual Utah Summer Basin Area Quilters 789-727- 0. ejoy getting to know a lot of differ- Games are drawing near and we have some local teams participating. The Summer Games are held in Cedar City and provide a forum for athletes of all ages and skill levels compete in over 36 individual and team sports. Gale Gardner is taking a team of girls from the high school volleyball team down to Cedar City to play volleyball. Joe Fields ted is taking a softball team down. The softball team is made up of 11 girls that also played on the Union High School softball team. Another softball team is also going, foe coach is Steven Ames and his team consists of 13 girls ages 14 to 15. Their team will be sponsored by L&L. There will also be a basketball team participating in foe Summer Games. The coaches are Glenn and Steve Uresk and their team consists of nine players 18 and under. Their team is coincidentally called foe Cougars. These teams have practiced during the school year either as a member of a team or on their own. They have and will practice during the Youth & summer up until the games start. The basketball team has played teams from Emery and Altamont to prepare for the upcoming Games. Local athletes will face teams of their same age from throughout Utah. Many games will be played over a period ofjust a few days. The participants have to work hard and have a lot of physical strength and endurance as they face their opponents. There are many more local people who are participating in foe Utah Summer Games either as a team member or individually. This summer the Games will run June 10 - 23. Opening ceremonies will be held on Thursday, June 11. On Friday, June 12, everybody is invited to watch foe Jazz take on the Bulls on a Jumbo Tron television screen in the Eccles Coliseum. For those of you who think it is too late to register, think again. Most of the individual events will take registration up until foe start ofthe competition. This means that all of you procrastinators out there who would like to show off your athletic skills still have a chance. The number to call for more information is I started working at foe Uintah Basin Standard in April through foe School to Careers program. I wrote articles here and there about a variety of things ranging from I am now surveys to pet pigs. working for foe Standard for foe rest of the summer until I leave to attend foe College of Eastern Utah in Price on an academic and athletic scholarship. Til be playing on CEUs volleyball team and working toward my Associates of Science degree. I have had a lot of fun working for foe Uintah Basin Standard. I ent people through interviews and 1 get to take pictures. The people I work with all have their different personalities which make work interesting and fun! I have learned a lot about writing newspaper articles, which is very different from foe average school papers I am used to. I have also learned what it is like working with a variety of people in a new environment. So for my experience working for foe Standard has been a learning one and a fun one. I am thankful that I had this opportunity. I hope you like my articles, if you dont, well remember to be kind because Im still learning foe ropes.
