Hie library staff would like to share with you some of its colorful history to commemorate the event and thank those who had a hand in that history making event. In 1985 a group of citizens felt it was time to build a new library. The Roosevelt City Library had been housed at the same location since 1942. Roosevelt City didnt have the resources available to build the $200,000 project alone. At this same time it was revealed that the residents ofDuchesne County provided only a small portion of the money required to run the library. A lobbying effort was mounted by library staff members, board members, city officials, county officials and citizens at large. This lobbying effort eventually led to the securing of funds and construction of a new facility located in the Roosevelt City Park between the librarys old location and the swimming pool. Hie current library facility was constructed and dedicated on Feb. 27, 1987. Because of the combined efforte of Roosevelt City and Duchesne County it was decided that the library should be renamed the Roosevelt City and Duchesne County Library. For 10 years the city and county split all of the expanses and administrative responsibilities. Hiis cooperative effort was dissolved in 1997 due to a state law that prohibits double taxation of state residents.
