Whiting Duchesne County Commiuion-er- c have offered the Duchesne County School District the old county courthouse for $1 down. Commissioners made the deal in hopes that the school district would put the former county courthouse to good use. For )1 the school district could lease the building far 99 years. That was essentially the same deal that enticed the county to leave the old courthouse and move their administrative offices into the former Bureau of Reclamation building. Its no secret that there are problems with the old building, but it's nothing that cant be fixed, said commissioner Larry Ross. The county will meet with school district officials today (Dec. 2) to identify costs of having either one or both entities take over occupancy of the building and assume maintenance and operation costs. The countys 1998 budget includes funding in the building and grounds department to maintain the old courthouse. Organisers have set up the Christmas Spirit Connection Work Shop in a building south of Pat's Little Lunch Spot on Lagoon Street where volunteers are building toys, refurbishing donated toys and crafting. Public participation is welcome and encouraged! Connection organisers will keep the building open from 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Mondsy through Saturday, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. beginning Dec. 1. Donations of wrapping paper, bows, ribbon and tppe will be appreciated by the Connection as well as new and nearly new winter clothing and toys.
