DSS took the Uintah Basin and the entire home entertainment industry by storm almost three years ago, setting sales records for a newly introduced consumer electronics product Today, more than 2 million people nationwide subscribe lo DIRECTV, which industry experts regard as the mast serious threat ever mounted by an alternative to cable television. Subscribers receive a digital television signal through a satellite receiving dish about the size of a large pizza. UBTV is affiliated with the National Rural Telecommunications (NRTC), Cooperative an organization partly responsible for helping make the channel a reality. "This is a remarkable snide far local consumers," says Bob Phillips, chief executive officer of NRTC. "For the first time, a national television service has acknowledged that rural Americans deserve to receive news and infcxmational programming that is tailored lo their unique interests." Mansfield says formers and ranchers and all local residents should feel especially gratified that a service as reputable and service-oriente- d as DIRECTV is included a channel specifically for agriculture among its offering. cl wide-rangi- Basin residents recipe in national cookbook low-inco- low-inco- . al0 one-thir- d recipe won the monthly contest and she was rewarded wife a Kitchen Aid Mixer; and Food Processor.
