Service CHURCH 402 Hillcrcsl Drive Roosevelt, Utah 0 Phone: Pastor Stacy Hadlock: 19- Nova tells viewers the "Secrets of Making Money" They say that money talks, but this bill smirks! It's the portrait on Benjamin Franklin on the new S100 bill, featuring a redesigned and larger image of Franklin, plus an arsenal of other defenses aimed at thwarting the growing ranks of currency counterfeiters, including the new breed who duplicate their wealth at the local copy shop. NOVA explores the latest, strategies in' the battle against bogus bucks in "Secrets of Making Money," airing Tuesday, October 22 at 8 p.m. The updated $100 note was issued in early 1996 and is the first in a planned redesign of all U.S. cuncncy. More than just a piece of crisp paper, the bill features a in watermark, microprinting Franklins lapel, a polymer security thread that glows in ultraviolet light, 21 rows of microprinicd letters inside one of the color-shiftidenomination numbers, g ink, self-satisfi-ed concentric lines and a richly detailed of Franklin portrait himself, sporting an enigmatic, Mona Lisa-lik- e smite that some call a smirk. And thats not all: there arc secret features the U.S. treasury won't even reveal. You can't be mo careful when, according to some allegations, an unfriendly foreign government is producing billions of dollars in nearly flawless counterfeits of the old $100 bill, supposedly printed with the same Swiss-mad- e presses used by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. In recent years, there has been a surge in counterfeits confiscated abroad, where U.S. dollars arc often the currency of choice. This international funny money is one impetus for the design. high-quali- The Feds arc also increasingly worried about "casual" counicrfcits--ran- k amateurs who use sophisticated color photocopiers and laser scanners and printers to tide them over until their next paycheck. Tom Ferguson of the Bureau of Engraving and Priming admits that die new $100 still is not counterfeit-proo- f. "Nothing we can produce is perfect to the point no one else could ever produce it. What we want to do is make it so difficult that they wont try." NOVA: "Secrets of Making Money" airs Tuesday, October 22 at H p.m. Uintah Basin STANDARD CLASSIFIED ' " - ty ADS! : Call Toll ,Free .
