Uintah Basin Standard Education RECOGNITION LUNCHEON-- A special luncheon was hosted last week by the Uintah Basin Association of Government to honor members of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Guest speaker Dean Young talked about die value of a senior citizen volunteer. Craig Tew named top teacher by Soil Conservation District Craig Tbw from Altamont, Utah has been chosen as the "Conservation Teacher ofthe Year" for Duchesne County by the Duchesne County Soil Conservation District for 1995. Tew has been a Vocational Education Teacher for 17 years and is very dedicated to teaching young men and women the importance of developing a high moral character as well as developing their minds. His desire in doing this is to help his students be bettor people with skills that will help them become successful in all that they attempt. Craig has always strived to help his students to feel good about themselves by encouraging and praising their work in whatever they do. Over the years that Craig has been teaching he has received, many praises tor his teaching abilities and his desire to be a good influence to the students, from other teachers and school administrators. Such comments as "He is very genuine in his concern for students, and he has a good attitude in trying to help students" and "Mr. Craig Tew is an outstanding educator. He performs well in the classroom ana always goes the extra mile to help students achieve and be Elder Jody Sleight will return from the Nagoya Japan Mission July 14. Two Uintah Basin High School Students,, Becky Ann Muir, parade and rodeos at days of 47 All-Hor- se Salt Lake City, Utah, July 6 -tradition continues the, Days of 47 All Horse Parade lucks off the week long Days of 47 Rodeo. "This year the response for the Horse Parade has been fantastic, said Joel Smith, horse parade chair. "We are way ahead of the last several yean in number of entries, and they are still coming in." The Horae Parade begins at 6 p.m. on July 17, 1995. The Parade, begun as the Silver Dollar Parade because all the winners received their cash prizes in silver dollars, leads into seven nights of the roughest and toughest rodeo in the state. The Days of 47 World Championship Rodeo begins at 7 p.m., July 17, As the 84-ye- ar -- All-Ho- 1995. The Days of 47 World Champion Rodeo is a Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association-approve- d rodeo that draws allworld competitors to vie for an estimated $140,000 in prize money. The events include: bull riding; saddle bronc riding, calf roping, bareback riding, steer wrestling. team roping, barrel racing, team penning and a wild cow milking contest. This years specialty act is T.C. Thorsteneon from Goodyear, Arizona, and his trained buflalo, Harvey Wallbanger, Jr. The buffalo will perform each night of the rodeo. "The World Championship Days of 47 Rodeo ii consistently ranked among the top rodeos in the United States," said Flip Harmon, rodeo chair. "Rodeo is the roughest, toughest and one of the most exciting and dangerous sports, and this rodeo attract! the most outstanding professionals in the business because it is one of the biggest and best in the country. The rodeo runs from July 17 through July 22 at 7 p.m. with the final night on July 24 at 6 p.m.; it is held at the Delta Center, 301 South West Ttynple, Salt Lake City. On the 20th, Dairy Cattle, Agricultural issues, and Family Business Management contests were held. The Livestock team received a gold emblem award and placed fifth in the state. The team members are Dex Winterton, Yvonne Parrish, Justin Freston and Walt Wootton. Individually, Dex Winterton placed 2nd and Wait Wootton placed fifth in the state. Cami Wood, Angie Wood, Travis Haslem and Teresa Dean were on the Agricultural Issues team and received a blue emblem award and placed 3rd in (he state. The Dairy Cattle Judging team whom members are Michelle Duncan,1 Yvonne Parrish, Brians Sherman, and Writ Wootton received a nd emblem award. The Family Business Management team that consisted of Matt Betts, Ryon Mortensen, and Scott Williams received a lue emblem award and placed 4th in the state. The contests held on the 21st were Horse and Meats Evaluation. The Horse judging team members are Teresa Dean, Michelle Duncan, Brians Sherman, and .Yvonne Parrish. They earned a grid emblem award.
