The council is a group of 10 citizens who are qualified by education, training, knowledge, experience or interest to advise the district manager concerning land management matters. Council members receive no pay for their work, but are compensated for expenses incurred in the performance of their duty. They are nominated for council positions by their peers and the nominations are reviewed by the district and state offices of BLM. Appointment is by the Secretary of the Interior. Council members terms are for three years. New appointees terms will begin January 1, 1993. Each member of the council serves in one of eight categories, designed to maintain balance within the council. The Vernal district is seeking nominations in the following three categories: nonrenewable resources, wildlife, and elected official of general nominated, and a brief paragraph or two indicating the nominee's qualifications. Persons may, if they choose, nominate themselves. The district will gladly accept nominees who are women or minorities. Nomination deadline is Friday, government The incumbents in these three categories are eligible for reappointment should they be renominated and reappointed. Nominees must be citizens ofthe United States, and should have residence within the borders of the district in which they are nominated to serve.
