One of the most powerful tests that can be performed is the Ultrasound. The ultrasound can be used to diagnose many conditions. Twins can be diagnosed early with the ultrasound and proper growth of either twin or single fetus pregnancies can be monitored very closely. The ultrasound can be used to detect abnormalities and allows early treatment. For example, if a congenital heart defect is detected, arrangements can be made prior to delivery to transport the baby to an neonatal intensive care center. If your pregnancy is complicated by bleeding, the ultrasound can be used to diagnose malposition of the placenta or it can identify that the placenta has come loose from the uterus. Thus, early diagnosis can benefit your baby as treatment can be started early. Dr. The ultrasound can also be a very fun procedure for the parents. While the ultrasound is being conducted, the parents can see the heart beating, and can see features of the baby such as the hands, feet, and the face. The sex of the bariby can often be determined during the procedure. Pictures can be taken during the procedure to put in the baby book. Generally, an ultrasound is ordered at 18 weeks of pregnancy. At this time, the date of delivery can be confirmed. Also at this time, defects can be identified, proper growth can be monitored and it can be determined whether or not twins can be expected. In general, a detailed obstetrical ultrasound is done at the hospital with sophisticated, expensive equipment. The procedure generally takes 30-4- 5 minutes to complete. If you are pregnant, contact your physician early. James R. Jaussi, OBGYN Board Certified 175 Nort 100 West Suite 101 3 Vernal, UT 84078 - 789-701- i n 11 Gloria Ada Denison Thomas cemetery. C.
