For years and years softball has been a mqjor sports event during the UBIC, and 1991 is no different with mens and womens A and B League tournaments scheduled throughout the three days of the celebration. The format is 0. enthusiasts will be able to skate at $1 a day, Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the UBIC at the Rock n Roll Skating Rink. Harmston reported that in afew weeks Duchesne County equipment will begin removing dirt for the large storage pond, which is planned for the back nine. They will also prepare the foundation for the tees and greens. The Back Nine Committee is acquiring matching funds through donations for materials, equipment and labor, and will approach the Community Impact Board for funds through the form of a grant. Recently Vernal City and Carbon County were given CIB funds to use for golf course improvements through the installing of back nines. "It will be next spring at the earliest before we (Back Nine Committee and Roosevelt City) visit with the Impact Board," said Harmston. Roosevelt City is currently trying to acquire CIB funds n for a proposed municipal Nine Back The facility. Committee will wait until the City complex-recreatio- takes care of its municipal complex funding before approaching the Impact Board. One of the main concerns of Roosevelt the CIB for golf course funds might hurt the chances of getting help from the Impact Board for a municipal complexrecreation facility. However, both bids will be presented at separate visits with the Impact Board, and officials are hoping they will be evaluated on their own merit The City is planning to present a scaled do wn version of its proposal to the Impact Board this month grant-loa- n 0 that includes combination. Harmston commented that some golfers have been already ducking out the back nine by hitting balls through the rocks, trees, brush and trash. "People have been teeing up halls on the back nine. They set down a piece of carpet and take a couple of swings," he said. 50-5- Football starts Aug. 5 at UHS Football practice at Union High School will begin Monday, August 5 at 7 a.m. under the direction of second-yea- r coach Don Busenbark. Cougar football team hopefuls will go through conditioning drills during the first week, and then begin hitting the pads later on. In the past Union has fielded varsity, junior varsity and sopho- more football teams. The Cougars are members of 3--A Region 7 along with Uintah, Carbon, Emery, Wasatch and Lehi. Last year Lehi- - took region with Emery placing second. Uintah, Carbon and Wasatch tied for third. The Utes went to state when they beat Carbon in a region playoff. The Dinos beat Wasatch to advance into the game with Uintah. Emery won a first round playoff game, but Uintah and Lehi dropped contests. Union High School will host its football season with a home game againBt Moffat County out of Craig, Colorado August 30. The Cougars defeated Moffat last year in a close game. Union will played Evanston on the road and then will face Uintah. Price teams win tourney Price American and Price National grabbed top honors in the Western Boyi Baseball Association District Tournament held in Altamont this past week, according to WBBA representative, Walter Borla of Helper. Altamont and Duchesne competed in the 2 year old tournament, but didnt place.
