Duchesne Elementary students astound invention judges Change. We all change at one time in our life. Change is the threshold to the fixture, and in one way or another, we have all expe- rienced this groat phenomenon of sorts. First term has just come to a dose at Union High School, an the pressures of a new term are at hand. Many members of the Union High School faculty, along with several students, have sensed a tremendous change for the better in the attitudes of those who inhabit the halls and classrooms at Union thirty hours a week. In my days at Union this year, I have yet to come across an individual who is involved in a club or organization far the sole and meaningless purpose of personal gain. Instead, the "in attitude is that of team work. This team work attitude that emanates from the students of Union is the glue that bonds students and faculty together, and places Union students in the "top honors category. Students are no longer afraid to be themselves amidst the varying styles and opinions. Students are no longer afraid to excel and succeed. In many cases. Union students are soaring into their futures, and are receiving top honors. Now that Pm a senior, I see the ners were Robert Johnson, second place, who invented a By Dona Hansen, DES g Invention Convention Day waa held at Duchesne Elementary, Nov. 8 and featured many ingenious students. The judges were scratching their heads trying to decide which ones to send to the District Convention. Coming out in first place honors for the Intermediate Division was Daniel Taylor, a fourth grader, who displayed his double seat belt to be used by parents carrying children on their laps in the car. Nathan Bench, a third grader, won the Primary Division with his shortening slider, which solves the tricky kitchen task of measuring solid shortening. Other top intermediate win rake, and Gayle Gunter, third, whose ready-loa- d gun loads many bullets at the same time. Honorable mentions were Jilean Stans-fiel- d with her Stansfields Summer Sausage and Jeff Redmonds stir-er- a ry spoon. Taking second place in the primary grades waa Quinn Monsens can smasher Justin and Ellingfords white-glu- e pump. The projects were exceptionally well done this year, said Laura Nielsen, faculty member in charge of the convention. Its interesting to see what innovative ideas our students can create. Soon they will be seniors, and a new flock of sopho-mores will come to Union, and we, the class of 1990, will have gone out into the world and hopefully will have made our mark.
