Audrey Luck, daughter of Lance and Maureen Luck, Neola, was chosen as first attendant, with Mindy Osmond, daughter of Vem and Linda Osmond, Roosevelt, as second attendant. The contest, sponsored by the Roosevelt Womens Service League, provides a pageant experience for high school girls, while gaining valuable scholarship money for the winner. Jr. Miss is a national competition that carries a greater emphasis on scholastic achievement and personality than many other beauty competitions. Miss Earl claimed the trophies for judges interview, physical fitness and talent, while Miss Luck earned the scholastic award and Miss Osmond secured the trophy for poise and personality. Nov. and Viola Cook, 31-L- arry 1-- Roy Dancers to celebrate 30th anniversary with concert BYU Folk Brigham Young world-renown- ed Universitys International Folk Dance Ensemble ebrate will cel- its 30th anniversary of Christmas Around the World Dec. 1 and 2 in the Marriott Center. Tickets for the 7:30 performance are now on sale at the center. In addition to the traditional colorful costumes and the entertaining dances performed by the folk dancers, this years 30th anniversary show will feature Dancing Waters from New York, plus two special guests, the Zivio Ethnic Aria Ensemble and the Panoramic Steel Band. We want to do something special for our anniversary, says Ed Austin, artistic director of the folk dancers. Thats why were bringing in the Dancing Waters. Wean also really excited about our special guests this year, because of the elements they will add to the show. Both of them will add live music, which I think adds energy and vitality to any show. The group specializes in Slavic music, popu-lin eastern Europe. Its mam4v- bers have toured throughout and are heavily involved in ar Eu-ro- pe . the Utah Slavic cultural event held each year in Salt Lake City. The Panoramic Steel Band is comprised of BYU student playing steel drums. The drums, popular in the Caribbean region, produce a variety of pitches when the drummer strikes the surface in different areas. Steel bands have grown in popularity as the music's distinct sound and rhythm have spread from the Caribbean to the rest of the world. Hundreds of thousands of people have attended Christmas Around the World during the past 30 years. The shows began in the old Georgs Albert Smith and expanded to the Marrse Center in the early 1970s.
