Mr. Simone teaches band at three Roosevelt schools, Union High, Roosevelt Junior High, and Roosevelt Middle School. Although he is extremely busy holding down the band and music programs at these three schools, he is never too busy or in too big of a hurry to take time out for the students, to discuss a problem, a work assignment, encouragement, or a friendly give them smile. Mr. Simone is responsible for the formation of the Union High School Marching Band three years ago, a source of community pride, making available a wonderful summer activity for the stu r dents in the area. He has taken the band on many trips during the summers, including the International Days in Price last August,' where the band returned with a first place trophy, the first ever for the band program at Union High. Mr. Simone has a wonderful way with the students, teaching them discipline, showmanship and sportsmanship. In addition, each student leaves him with a deeper appreciation and understanding of music. Besides the marching band, he works with the pep band at home ball games at the high school, and the concert band presents a Christmas concert and a spring concert for the enjoyment of the community. He puts in longhours, far and above what is expected of him, all for the good of the students who are fortunate enough to have him for a teacher. The community of Roosevelt is certainty fortunate to have such a dedicated educator and citizen. Over 200 people attended the birthday celebration for Lucy Murphy Saturday, Oct. 28 in Roosevelt.
