November IB. 1989- - Pae3 UEA Continued from pagel Escaped prisoner caug ht, charge added to record A convicted murderer who escaped from Duchesne County Jail a year ago has been captured and arraigned in Third Circuit Court e cm a felony escape charge. Kendall Northern, 27, was arrested in August, after appearing on a nationally syndicated TV program that profiles fugitives, Americas Most Wanted. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday, November 15, in circuit court, on the escape charge. Northern was considered a model inmate at the county jail, where he had earned trustee status; he was allowed to do odd jobs around the complex, and given comparable freedom. He had been allowed to work on a motorcycle that had been confiscated in a drug arrest He used that same motorcycle in his escape. He reportedly entered the garage where the motorcycle was kept, strapped an oversized battery to the rear fender, jammed a screwdriver into the ignition switch, and rode away. Convicted as an accomplice in a 1980 shooting death and robbery of a Salt Lake City taxi cab driver, Northern had been sent to Duchesne County Jail as part of a program geared toward lessening the second-degre- overcrowding at the state prison. He is now behind bars awaiting sentencing for this additional charge. He will not be returned to Duchesne County Jail to complete his prison sentence, officials say.
