Show T 7 v Page 2, UINTAH BASIN STANDARD. April 13. 1988 (Uintah (Basin Editorial Standard Do you Know your newspaper? Have you ever wondered exactly what a newspaper is and how it's put together? Many people dont really know exactly what it takes to put out a newspaper, or how it operates, or why we do things the way we do them. We are a "business", in the sense that we gather, research, package and distribute information as our "product" to the public, that it wants and needs to know. The costs of collecting, printing and distributing this information are paid for solely by the funds collected through advertising, subscriptions and the coin holders on our news racks. The Standard employs four fulltime employees, with 8 part-tim- e employ- -' ees that help with tasks ranging from mailing out of the paper to advertising layout, and uses a roll of paper 12 miles long for each weekly issue. The Standard covers a newsbeat of several hundred square miles, ranging from Strawberry to Maeser, the Wyoming Border, almost down to Price and dozens of rural communities inbetween. On the average, it costs about $600 a week, just in postage, to mail the ptper to our subscribers in or out of the Basin, (and that was before the postage rate . increase)! We take pride in the work we do, in keeping the public informed, enlightened and even entertained, with the news and features they want, as well as those items they need to know. Still, did you ever imagine what life would be like without the Standard? Have you ever tried to dip coupons from a radio advertisement? What about wedding announcements, sports photographs, church and society news and events, birth announcements and first birthdays, or academic honor rolls, students of the month and other school news? What about public and legal notices, as well as other news and information about what government is doing, not to mention die classified advertisements? Think of all those things you would be missing without the Standard, and we think youll agree that youre getting areal bargain! We believe in and support the Basin, because this is where we live and work. We appreciate your continuing support and pledge our efforts in keeping the Standard a paper you can be proud of!
