Show 2 Skilled Professionals Dr. Terry Buxton has seen the hospital go through mem changes in the two years he has practiced hen than any other phyakfai) on the medical staff. Buxton first arrived in Roosevelt in 1963 after completing internship at LDS Hospital He wasn't recruited but began practice hen because he saw Roosevelt as a friendly, progressive community with a need for a doctor. Office space was available for the new young doctor with Dr. R.V. In 1969, the original building on the present site of Duchesne County Hospital was built, and at the same time ' came a new doctors clink built nearby. Since then, half a dosen physicians have practiced in the dink still occupied by Dr. Buxton and Dr. Gary White. Dr. Buxton has high praise for the new hospital addition and says the greatest thing about it is taxpayer ownership. He notes that the doctors have helped the hospital remain in the black by not competing with hospital services such as y ana lab facilities. According to Buxton, the hospital here is rather unique in that there exists no tween physicians and staff. "People fad a oneness here, he says. X-ra- Dr. Gary Wold One of the most recent additions to the hospital medical staff, Dr. Gary Wold joined Dr. Keith Evans partnership in March 1984. A BYU undergraduate in economics,' Dr. Wold attended medical school at the University of Utah and later completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrence, California. Keith Evans is a hometown boy returned to practice as an obstetrician. Dr. Dr. Keith Evans Terry Buxton He established a practice for a time in Bountiful but a desire to bring a more rural lifestyle to his family prompted his recent decision to move to the Basin. With two obstetricians sharing the late and erratic hours, the two physicians will have more time to work on infertility problems and other specialised gynelogi-ca- l procedures. ' ' Much of Dr. Keith Evans early life was spent in the Roosevelt area. He lived here until he was about eleven years old before his family moved to Oregon. At least one area resident remembers the young Keith's desire to become a doctor even at that early age. Dr. Evans came again to Roosevelt in 1960 after completing a three year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Utah. He attended college and medical school in Oregon. Ada Matthews "They don't do anything without director of Nursing Cariene Ada, Jensen says. R.N. Ada Matthews is into her third decade at the hospital and there isnt much she doesnt know about the place, its proedeures, or personnel Her skill have been in demand for many years. For a time she eras the only UN. working in town. She trained several other L.PN.s to relieve her but she was on call day and night for too years. She did leave from the hospital to obtain her nurse anesthetist certification. Currently, Matthews is the only nurse anesthetist in the Roosevelt area, which means she is still on call any time Hie state of Utah has one of the highest birth rates in the nation and Duchesne County does its part to keep up statistics. Dr. Evans soon became busy fa the Roosevelt Medical Clinic and later, began his own specialty dink across the street. Before adding a partner to his dink fa March 1984, Dr. Evans delivered as many as 30 to 45 babies per month. He helped fa design of the new obstetric facilities in the new hospital addition, and along with his new partner, Dr. Gary Wold, mans to increase the number of specialist procedures performed there. .. surgery is needed. Duchesne Physicians Find Challenge Dr. Frank Rivera served one Ft .Duchesne Medical Clink Three physicians are currently on staff, all serving as port of the National Health Service force. This program pays for a part of a physicians educational expenses If he or she will agree to serve two years fa an area where a shortage of medical doctors exists. Dr. Eric Onne will complete his duties with the service this summer. A native of Sdt Lake City, Onne is a graduate of Amherst College and the University of Utah Medical School He received three years of training fa internal medicine and works often fa the new Intensive Care Unit when at the hospital here. Dr. Karen Miller has been with the service almost a year. She mew up fa Oklahoma, graduating from the University there, before completing Medical School and internship at the University of Utah. .. v year of his Health Service obligation in Parker, Arizona before' coming to Ft. Duchesne. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Rivera completed undergraduate work at Stanford University, medical school fa San Antonio and internship at Coopera-town- , New York. Dr. Miller also comments about the variety and professionally rewarding experience available. Dr. Rivera is impressed with the new medical facilities and says with the positive direction the hospital seems to be taking, it could very well become the hub of health care for the region.
