The Board of Education of Duchesne County School District met in regular session at Neola Elementary School, Neola, on Thursday, April 26, 1984, beginning at 5:30 p.m. the following itemsmatters were considered. 1. The merit paycareer ladder program draft was discussed further; Superintendent Lowell Caldwell and Assistant Superintendent. Dennis Mower are still in the process of meeting with the school faculties to review the draft with them and explain same. The Board will act on the proposed policy at its May 10 meeting (after input has been received from all of the schools) in order that the Districts plan can1 be filed with the Utah Skate Office of Education prior to the May 15 deadline (districts must have State approval appropriated by the State Legislature. 2. The Board appropriated $3,000 for the purchase of materials (Selling Our Schools) for use by the schools in impipving public relations and communication between schools and parents in the District. 3. The Board approved of adopting a point system for calculating coaching pay (fra extra duty outside of the regular school day) and appointed Union High School Principal, Ron Wolff, acting as chairman, to meet with all of the coaches in the District (both high school and jr. high school) and draft a proposed point system policy program for consideration at the June 7 Board of Education meeting; the dollar value of the points will be negotiated at a later time. Funding for coaching pay was considered also as well as additional funding sources for the extracurricular activities,, ... 4. Goals anid objectives' for tlie District for the upcoming school were discussed; the following were suggested by the Board (Mr. Caldwell will obtain input on this from the School Principals at the next Principals meeting as well): a. Work towards more time on task being spent in the class- rooms. b. Adoption of a restricting students on mount of time they can be gone from a class due to extracurricular activities and still receive credit. Placing a limit on the number of activities (sports, etc.) a school can participate in. d. Insure grade level mance fra every capable tary school student. e. Have every high school adopt an attendance policy similar to Union High School's (must pass competency test to get credit for any class in which student is absent over 5 days in one term). f. Improve public relations in the schools. g. Schools to make a greater effort to publicize school activitc. ies. h.
