LAKE TRAFFIC AT standstill workmen on a strike and the big fre vessels are idle chicago lake freight traffic la at a j affie longshoremen at detroit cleveland duluth and all over tha lakes several of the boats which are noa effected by the strike bore upon their bides early tuesday large placard announcing that they were union boats the center ot the strike ad ar as this city Is concerned Is not in the city proper but in south chicago where the mills of the illinois steel company a branch ot the united steel corporation are located the passenger boats running out 0 chicago hive not thus tar been af acted by the strike at cleveland lumber boats package freight boats and passenger boats are pot affected by the strike at present as their owners are not affiliated the lake carriers association in the port of cleveland 4 men are directly affected 1000 ol 01 whom are seamen
