After preparing for a year or so, in training and buying necessary equipment, the Duchesne County Commissioners placed a and State Certified ambulance in the Tabiona-Hann- a area. The ambulance is the one which has been stationed in Duchesne for the past five years. It was restocked and certified by the State of Utah before being taken to the Tabiona area. There are a total of 10 EMT's now registered in that area with three more that recently completed the necessary EMT course in Roosevelt Their education doesn't seem to end folly-equippe- d -- some of those areas, Wood. there, as seven of them are now LV. certified by the State which places them at the EMT level 11 position. The new Tabby Valley EMTs have been active in obtaining private donations for the purchasing of radios. This allows them to talk to one another plus the Sheriffs department in case of two-wa- The association has agreed that to better prepare the area in first aid, plus allow themselves to practice and perfect their knowledge, they would be an association of service. For these reasons they will offer several CPR ( car classes each year. The first one is planned for July. Also, several area groups have asked for first aid instruction which is now available from the association. The new association will meet on the second Thursday of each month for training and scheduling of ambulance coverage. They invite any who may be interested in serving the area with the EMT's, to come to the meeting and get involved. "We need all the help we y emergencies. "We are a long way from nowhere up here and this allows the proper communication between EMTs and hospital, said EMT Judy Williams. A sled for mountain rescue has also been purchased by the association. This sled can either be used behind a snowmobile, hauled over rough terrain, or be hoisted by a helicopter. There are a lot of placed the ambulance cant go in this area and this allows us to do our job in ROOSEVELT NEWS stated Elaine can get, said Deon Rhoades. The officers of the newly formed association are: Evelyn Roberts, president; Deon Rhoades, secretary; and Judy Williams, training officer. Other members are Jerry Christiansen, Barbara Christiansen, Elaine Wood, Ranae Park, Bob Park, Sharon Lamb, and Viola Gines. Vickie Wilson, Pattie Gire, and Valarie Lamb are the trainees waiting for certification from the state. EMTs go through and extensive EMT course. All of these upper country volunteers traveled either to Roosevelt or Duchesne for this course. The course is 115 hours long and covers every medical emergency possible, and what the EMT does with those emergencies. These people are trained in burns All to frost bite, bandaging and splinting, basic life support to the starting of I.V.S. They have been CPR certified and all are capable of teaching the Hemlich maneuver, or what to do in the case of choking. Medical emergencies such as emergency childbirth, epileptic seizures, snake bites and even bee stings are covered in the EMT course. The ambulance is defined as a hospital on wheels. EMT's are trained on what to do prior to transporting patients to the hospital. They have also received training on the extrication of people from automobiles, and lifting and moving patients to the ambulance so as not to further complicate their injuries. All communities in the Basin have a distance from the hospital problem and in some circumstances time does make a difference. Trained volunteers have also banded together in a service organization to better serve the emergency cares of the residents of Hanna and Tabiona. The ambulance is dispatched by the DucheBne County Sheriff's It is housed Department at and maintained by the Chevron pump station in Hanna. The area residents also donated a CB base station that is monitored on Channel 9. 24 hours a day. 738-242- Gladys Ross e Barbara Mortensen and David Roger Smith were married April 30 at the Jordan River Temple.
