They emphasized that these are only estimates based on what little information These they have. estimates are based on what we have accomplished this afternoon, said Quest. The real economies we have seen are in projects that are $500,000 and up. Quest said the council can expect to have to pay a little more per square foot for a smaller structure. With the information presented to the council, they suggested that they would probably have to build more than just enough to meet the 1982 levels, but probably couldnlt build enough to meet 1990 esti- mates. The Council suggested looking at the possibility of construction approximately 3,000 square feet. They requested that AR1X prepare a report of their findings and submit it to the Library Board with a rough sketching of a proposed addition to the library. The City is presently working on a grant which may provide money for the project, and the council said that with this information they have a better understanding of which way to head on the project. According to City Administrator Shane Luck, the grant proposal is for funds from the Com munity Block Grants. Luck explained that these monies are made available for projects that address certain needs. The major concerns of the grant are that the project will benefit income families; will address projects needed because of energy impact; and finally, that such projects win deal with methods for handling certain problems posed by populations increases. Luck said the grant proposal will soon be submitted and the City will have a better idea of where they ' stand. He added that the information provided at Mondays Council meeting should wove helpful in the grant request. Mr. Quest emphasized that these figures are based on the low end of the States Library Standards. After a presentation of the size requirements, the architect presented estimates of construction costs for various library projects. The AR1X architect said they estimate a remodeling of the existing facility could probably be completed for a minimum of $29,000. That would not be very much remodeling, said Quest. However, he emphasized that if a major overhaul of the electrical system was required this amount would most certainly increase. Hie ARK representatives presented the Council with an estimated figure of somewhere between $99,500 and $120,900 to bring the facility up to 1982 levels. This would include an addition of approximately 1,500 square feet. They further explained that to bring the building up to 1990 estimated levels could Grandparents are Mrs. Jim Hoffman, Moab, and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Getchell.
