' History abounds in the area where before 1857 foe area was foe occasional abode of Indians that roamed the land. In 1859 a fort was built in the northwest oart of what is now Heber City and by 1860 the land had been divided. It is interesting that many of foe desendants of the families that occupied the fort are still actively in community affairs today. In 1862 the legislature established Wasatch County with Heber Gty as the county seat. Then in 1868 somebody got foe Indians riled up and there was an Indian War. Nevertheless, m spite of hostilities the area continued to grow. In 1899 the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad rolled through and connection with the outside world was complete and by 1929 all foe inhabitants even had electric power. Wasatch and Summit Counties have continued to grow while still maintaining its flavor of the old west and the rustic rugged ness of foe surrounding mountains and valleys.
