Show 12 STANDARD Jun 14. 1979 Local Vietnam vets honored The week of May 28 through June 8 wu designated by President Jimmy Carter as Vietnam Veterans Week. On May 29, as part of the national observance, five Vietnam veterans from Roosevelt received certificates in recognition of service to the nation in time of war, and outstanding achievement in time of peace. As part of Roosevelt city eoundl meeting, Mayor Ralph Shields presented the certificates signed by President Carter and the mayor, and at that same time also signed the proclamation observing National Vietnam Veterans Week. On May 80, five Vietnam veterans from Duchesne County received the same award, presented by the Duchesne County Commissioners. Commissioner Loryn Roes signed and presented certificates to the following: Cedi Gurr and Gary Houtz, t; Roosevelt; Terry Fieldstead, Mel Dalton and Rodney Harrison, Duchesne. Colors were posted by Clarence Jones, Roosevelt Musical selections were presented by Paige Meriwether, Duchesne. Comments were given by Commissioner Ross, Woody Reynolds of Duchesne, Commander of American Legion District 9 and Keith Hansen, Commander of Basin Post 864, Roosevelt American Legion Duchesne Post 822 was host for a social gathering at the Duchesne American Legion hall the ceremony.
