However, I am confused as to the definition of Southeastern Utah. The article implies that Southeastern Utah ends somewhere along Interstate 15 to Spanish Fork, State Route 6 to Green River, and eventually east along Interstate 70. Governor Leavitt is quoted as saying, Adestas fiber carves a new path of broadband access through the southeastern part of Utah. The article also states d communications network will run from again that The Southeastern Utah to Salt Lake City. And again by saying, The fiber links from Salt Lake compensation is in the form of to the southeastern border. Ok, perhaps this is an example of City an incomplete story. Or perhaps it is an example of the forgotten County. Just like with the Olympic Torch. San Juan County Who? Is that in our State? So when asked about the 2002 Olympics maybe we should say, What Olympics? Or when asked about southeastern Utah we should direct people to St. George. This is getting old. They do teach Geography in schools outside of San Juan County, don't they? J. David Bond lltl DANCE Jim Bourne, SULU President What is southeastern Utah0? rar PERSON YOU need to be s yourself Dear Editor: I am writing to you and your readers in an effort to generate additional support for the Motorcycle TrackMotorsports Park which is being proposed to and for the City of Monticello. vAny persdn or business owner in Monticello, who is concerned about a prosperous future for Monticello should support this project. At a luncheon meeting last Tuesday regarding the project, we were given some details by Kim Hoggard and Carol Barton. It was an informative meeting. At the meeting we learned that the City of Monticello could realize an annual return in excess of $100,000 from an initial investment of approximately $400,000 (excluding land it already owns)! This does not even take into consideration the additional revenue and profits for local businesses and their employees or the taxes from those additional revenues. g If you care about the future ofthis community, please get involved as soon as possible. Contact a City Councilman or Council-woma- n and express your support for this project and ask them to have the dty pursue it Then call Kim Hoggard, Jeremy Hoggard or Don Green and ask how you can help make this exciting project become a reality. Your immediate action in both regards is critical. This window of opportunity will not be open much longer. Take action today! Burton Black, President and General Manager Supports City on bark beetle Issue A Dear Editor I read with interest the recent Letters to the Editor regarding the spruce beetle infestation on Blue Mountain. On one hand, the Mayor and City Council assert there is an urgent need for aggressive action. On the other hand, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and Redrock Forests advocate essentially a do nothing, let nature take its course approach or at the most, say lets study this further. Both sides claim to be interested in preserving and protecting the watershed and water supply for the community of Monticello. One side wants to protect the Horsehead. The other side views its destruction as inevitable and even desirable. It is well to keep in mind that the existence of the spruce beetle infestation has been a matter of common knowledge for something between 10 and 20 years. Failure to do anything about it has resulted in a steady escalation of the measures which are necessary if the infestation is to be controlled. SUWA and Redrock Forests are indeed johnnies come lately.
