I drove south to the CCC camp and the boys showed me their quarters. The entire camp had gone on a picnic this particular Sunday. One of the boys stayed at camp while the other drove with me to Furnace Creek. He told me that a goodly number of the fellows walk the four miles from camp to Furnace Creek to the movies. Of course the heat is too intense for walking in thedaytime, so the boys walk over at night and they told me that walking under the stars through the desert is an experience not soo forgotten."
