The strength of your reaction determines whether you do indeed suffer from BPS (Bleeding Heart Syndrome). Decide which reaction is dosest to your own. a) Call the cops! We're talking about a wanton, perverted, criminal act here, and I a situation suspect your sanity for even suggesting such a thing! I don't care if it's for a human being's survival, it's wrong to kill an animal for any reason. b) Ugh! I have pushed the image quickly away, to protect my sensibilities. Golly, I almost feel sick to my stomach! I'll probably have sicko nightmares because you said that; just look into those eyes! Now I remember the way that dead deer on the highway looked. You just shouldn't ever say those kinds of awful things. c) What a disturbing thought! After all, the animal is a part of the family. I feel a special attachment to it and I sure wouldn't want that kind of thing to happen to my pet. Just don't ever mention this kind of thing to my kid. d) It's not the end of the world. People, animals, they die all the time. It's not pretty, but it's a part of life. Maybe it's not so awfully bad for an animal's fur to be used, if someone can make use of it. The animal sure wouldn't care. Anyway, people's organs get used after they die, and that's supposed to be a good thing. e) Hey, it's just an animal. People should be able to use animals for whatever they want whenever they want it's their right. Everything on the earth was put here for people to use. It's kind of a neat thought, us being in control like that. It's a pretty big responsibility, but since we are in charge, we can go ahead and forget about the heavy stuff and just have fun sometimes, if we want to. life-or-dea- th - By Jane S. Jones TEST RESULTS AND TREATMENTS If you picked a) or b), this indicates a terminal case of BHS. Picking c) indicates an but still curable case of BHS. A d) response indicates the normal, healthy individual with early no symptoms of the syndrome. Treatments for individuals: 1) Meditate upon the cycle of nature, on how life energy grows into an organism and then dies and is then reborn in another organism, in order for other life forms to grow and die and be born. 2) Watch "Bambi" again and ask yourself, is this real? Begin to consider this concept: that deer probably don't really talk. 3) Imagine yourself picking a warm, red, ripe tomato from a plant you grew from seed. Begin to tit ink about how you disrupted the continuation of life in this garden when you wrenched off that bright tomato fruit and scarfed it down RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF THE MOTHER PLANT. Now, analyze your feeling of horror. What crime, if any, have you committed? above indicates an individual going around By the way, a "Yes" to e) on the self-tethe bend in the opposite direction, and clearly suffering from the D&P (Dominion and Power-trip- ) virus. It is believed by some experts that 90 to 95 of all Americans currently suffer to some degree from this highly contagious illness. The virus is often present in a low-graform which is virtually undetectable by the host. There is no effective treatment known. non-termin- ANIMALS AND ILLNESSES MARAUDING DEER I heard a news story on die radio back in October. It was about a town in Pennsylvania and went it something like this: "Deer are defoliating a residential area, eating vegetable gardens, flowers, and new tree seedlings. "A special archery hunt system had been devised by local residents to reduce the population of destructive deer safely and unobtrusively. Small platforms were constructed in trees. Hunters waited overhead and when a deer walked below, die archer shot downward and method of archery hunting was used to address two made the kill. This particular concerns of residents: 1) so they would not fed they were in a war zone, with hunters stalking prey in their backyards, and 2) for the safety of the people of the neighborhood who might be threatened by the flying arrows of more traditional styles of archery hunting. "These local attempts to reduce the large deer herds were met with opposition from some residents and others outside the area. Said one irate citizen, 'It isn't fair to the deer to be hunted down. It's not their fault' "low-impac- t" WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? It means that I think these people are crazy to worry about a deer's right to trash the neighborhood. But after I've calmed myself down a bit, I realize it means that there must be a lot of people out there who have a VERY different outlook about animals than I da Why? I've decided one difference in outlook is because these people have had totally different life experiences than I've had. For one thing, I'll bet the irate citizen above never had to raise his or her own livestock for food, or has spent any time living on a farm. all your The difference is a very great one. When you're trying to be to of sell of and filled the with time is animals, trying something daily struggle raising crops just to buy something else. Sometimes you make all the wrong decisions, and you lose a lot of baby plants and animals along the way. I used to call it "life and death on the farm." I make no judgement whether this way of life is good or bad, but if you've lived it, you have a different attitude about animals than someone who hasn't. You've learned their nature from direct contact, domestic and wild animals alike. The result? You lose that romantic sentimentality about animals very quickly. And one illness you don't have to worry about is BHS. self-sufficie-nt, - ITS DETECTION AND TREATMENT BLEEDING HEART SYNDROME cat favorite or dog, innocent, trusting. Focus on the eyes. FIRST: POSITIVE CHANGE AT THE HOSPITAL A wonderful thing is happening at the hospital. The Hospital Board, now with many new faces and a lot of new energy and expertise, has taken over the budgeting and much of the administration of the hospital All possible avenues for keeping the hospital open are being explored. Input from the public is being considered. Many points of view are being addressed. Amidst all our concerns and worries over how we're going to get more doctors, keep the hospital open, and serve the health needs of the citizens, at least this one good thing has occurred, that Allen Memorial Hospital is at last being run like a business. Voters dearly showed their lack of confidence in the hospital administration this fall when they decisively voted down the 1 sales tax. The obvious question is, since we have these board members drawn from the community, working at no salary, who have had to step in and very capably assume most of the administration of the hospital so as to finally get things in order why are we still paying tens of thousands of dollars for a Hospital Administrator? - SECOND: PROPERTY RIGHTS IN GRAND COUNTY What kind of dtizen are you?
