Show PAGE 16 THE ZEPHYR MAY 1990 r",B" the zephyr gallery Pletograph panel from Sego Wash near Thompson, Utah. and Among the various techniques Anne uses to create her pictures are tie-d- ye painting with thickened dye, but the main technique Is Batik. This ancient art originated over one thousand years ago In Southeast Asia. The cloth Is dyed the lighter color of the planned design. Then to keep the light color, that part of the design Is covered with a mixture of hot beeswax and paraffin. The wax resists the dye. Next the cloth Is dyed a darker color and the process Is repeated until the piece Is finished. These pictures have between three and seven dyebaths. The characteristic crackle effect Is caused by the seeping of dye Into the cracks that develop In the wax. Anne's pictures are shown at the Moab Mercantile and Fine Arts Gallery at Main and Center Streets. |
