Show THE ZEPHYR/ AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2007 TRANSFORMATIONS THE WAY 11t WAS..IRe Wat tt is 1957 NORTH WASH and the road from Hite to Hanksville, from 1957 to 2007...Three views. 1990 About 30 years ago, a camper at Arches National Park told me of his adventures in Glen Canyon, inthe late 1950s. Charles Kreischer had tak- en hundreds of color photographs of his trips as well, and a few weeks later, he sent me some samples from his collection, including a phtograph of the old dirt road in North Wash. I returned to that spot in 1990 and again last month. The old cottonwood tree hangs on for dear life, though the stream bed has shifted dramatically. The new highway, constructed in the early 1970s is 50 yards to the right of these photos....JS 2007 |
