| Show R H FOH HOWELL AND CURLEW according to lo a well substantiated report a meeting was held recently at howell between officials of the southern pacific railroad and the farmers residing in the blue creek and curlew valleys for the pur purpose poBe ot of discussing the matter of 0 a railroad thru that hat section of the county the railroad people made a proposition to the tanners farmers that if they would contribute the land and build the grade from lampo the first station west of blue crek creek on the S eto whatever point they desired the road to terminate the company would lay tile the rails and operate trains the tanners farmers were not united as to what action they would take on this proposal some voting for and others asking tor for time to consider so nothing definite was accomplished but the railroad people let the offer stand and the farmers are now considering si it that a railroad Is almost a necessity up thru that section is evidenced by the tact fact that the country is harvesting vast amounts ot of grain every year and the farmers have long hauls bauls to get to a shipping point at howell lorenzo hansen alone harvested near ly IV bushels lieis this tills year and ana dozens lieis year lius of other extensive farmers harvested from a thousand to ten and fifteen thousand bushels that Is in the blue creek valley and passing on oil north to pocatello valley another wonderful granary is encountered for thousands upon thousands of bushels of grain are grown there annually going still on into the curlew valley the story is repeated and more acreage is being brought under cultivation each year tho farmers from holbrook way up in the north end of the curlew valley aie are teaming their grain down to the southern Sout herni pacific railroad instead of pulling it thru the mountains to malad for or the r reason eason that by coming south with it they have a down hill pull and the mountain climb that is necessary in going to malad As a re sult the alkali limited hauls whole train loads of grain every run it makes the people out are enthusiast tic tor for tora a rail road and they will stretch I 1 I 1 s Q ea to to get ong one |
