| Show conference CROWDS SAINTS IN SESSION IN SALT LAKE CITY fourteen thousand people attend opening session of the seventy fourth conference of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints one of the largest crowds in the history of the church attended the opening sessions of the seventy fourth annual conference of the church of jesus christ ot latter day saints in salt lake city on sunday the ses alons began in the forenoon but the biggest crowd was in the afternoon then the throngs filled every inch ot available space in the tabernacle packed the assembly hall where an overflow meeting was held and mccu pled abarge space on the grounds several statements were made which were generally taken as refer ances to the smoot case and the tes given there by president jo seph F smith to the effect that be intended to continue marriage rela alons with his plural wives in the opening prayer elder joseph E taylor gave thanks for the way in which the president of the church had defended the principles of the faith both at home and abroad president smith who presided made an address in which be urged the latter day saints to tie firm in the faith declaring the lord would reward his people for following the laws of righteousness and truth apostle francis M lyman spoke in favor ot multiplying and replenishing he earth he declared that all saints know when president joseph F smith speaks god Is speaking through him and the lord makes no mistakes elder brigham H roberts warned the Genit les not to reject the word during the forenoon president john R winder made a reminiscent ad dress and president anthon II 11 lurad spoke on easter and the resurrection A large part of the address of elder roberts in the afternoon was devoted to the subject of easter and the am mortality of the soul he made an in ci dental reference to dr W M pa den s recent sermons attacking part of the book of mormon |
