He pointed out that while improving sound quality is considered very important to theater owners, magnetic striping does have The Apprenticeship of Dud-d- y Kravitz enjoys a short run at the Opera House this weekend. This excellent Canadian film offers a harsh and powerful look at ambition, and the pain that results when ambition clouds judgment. Although the film d is harsh, it is not a look at a type of amorality that is common occurence in the business world. All this is one-side- without accomplished preaching at the audience, but by entertaining them. The film will be considered by many to be one of the best films of the year. Duddy is a poor Jewish boy who grew up in the slums Montreal. His life is tough. His mother died when he was six, and he must compete wi'h his older more sensible brother for what little affection the father displays. His ambition leads him to a job waiting on middle class tourists in a summer resort, where he begins his apprenticeship. Duddy is a bright but overzealous waiter, who learns that a gift to the right person can often improve working conditions. Duddy soon is running an illicit casino in the resort, where he gains enough working capital to begin Kravitz Enterprises, Inc. Duddy 's character is best summarized by one of Ins peers at the resort, when he exclaims hes the reason people become There is no mistake about the fact that Duddy is after the push-butto- anti-semiti- c. bucks. His attempts at manipulating people range from asking for a favor to extortion. Now, let's jump to another part of the teleptione--th- e tightly wound wire connecting the earpiece to the phone box. That wire, too, is a very orderly, simple design of concentric spirals, not unlike the scribbles we make when doodling. This repeated design is called rhythm. Step outdoors and take a look at a nearby tree. The whole tree presents us with roots, a trunk, bark, leaves, and many colors, depending upon the type of tree, the light in which were looking, and the season.
