Toyko police began a search for three persons suspected of placing the bomb on the third floor of the large office building. It was the second time the giant firm has been victimized by an explosion since last August. The majority of workers at the Mitsui offices had been evacuated after four telephone warnings were received approximately one half hour before the blast. Five of the injured persons were policemen who had entered the building in search of the explosive. The warnings were issued in the name of the Asian Continental Development Organization which was unknown until the incident. It is theorized that the group may have some connection with Mitsuis overseas activities which have often stirred controversy in the past. BRUSSELS, BELGIUM The Banque de Bruxelles, Belgiums second largest bank, sustained heavy losses due to illegal transactions on the foreign exchange market, it was revealed on Monday, October 14th. The huge losses were among a string of financial disasters which have hit Europe since the German bank Gerstatt of Cologne failed last June. Investors in Europe have been withdrawing funds from small banks after numerous small bank failures. The five on trial, Messrs. Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, Mardian, and Parkinson, are expected to base their defense on the premise that they were deceived by then President Nixon and they will most likely place all blame squarely on his shoulders. Meanwhile, the prosecution asserted that clear and convincing evidence" has not been provided to prove that Nixon is too ill to testify at the trial. Judge John Sirica has indicated that he may appoint a panel of doctors to examine the former president and determine his state of health. Nixon has been subpoenaed by both the prosecution and defense. In still another Watergate-relate- d matter, Mr. Nixon filed suit to gain control of his presidential papers and tapes. Stating the Ford administration had failed to honor its agreement to give him custody of the materials, Nixons lawyers are attempting to thwart efforts to gain access to additional Watergate evidence. On Thursday, October 17th, President Ford appeared before a congressional committee to declare that he had made no deals concerning the pardoning of Richard Nixon. Mr. Ford did reveal that the possibility of a presidential pardon had been mentioned to him by White House chief of staff Alexander Haigjeight days before he assumed the presidency. Park City is a hell of a long ways from Eden. Now, I dont mean that Park City is unique. Any town thats growin like ours is bound to have the problem. But we dont seem to be able to get ourselves together and do something about it. Dr. Philip G. Zimbardo, professor of psychology at Stanford University, was recently asked what could be done to combat the problem of Vandalism. Zimbardo, who has been investigating vandalism since the mid- sixties, said, Vandalism is not generated from a single cause but from a series of things which makes a person think: Nobody cares for me. Dr. Zimbardo recommends reestablishing a sense of community. For instance, the disappearance of the front porch where people used to sit seems like a little thing. But people used to sit there and watch the streets. If kids came in from another neighborhood to cause trouble, an adult could do something about it. No police force is going to be able to combat crime, including vandalism, We need a sense of community and community action." itself. by Its something to think about. Maybe we ought to use the curfew for something other than settin our clocks by. Maybe we need to think about givin the police enough help so that they can do more than ride around oo patrol. Maybe we ought to all chip in and buy them a spotlight to put on the front of that Blazer. Maybe we better think about what its gonna be like in a few years when we have to lock our doors whenever we go out, and when we go out we have to consider the possibility of being mugged. If, as the psychologists think, vandalism is brought on by social conditions that prevents CONSTRUCTIVE outlets for anger and protest, we ought to be takin a long, hard look at Park City, and what lies ahead for us if we dont start actin instead of ignorin. iiC0iLlTI0B CMIBE . i!
