At 16, like many other teenage girls, Sharon got the show biz bug. But Sharon without makeup, first thing in the morning, chewing at her pencil during a geometry exam was stunning. She looked walked stunning, stunning, stood stunning. But, according to those who were there at the time, she was nice about it. Unassuming stunning. When the Army reassigned Sharon's father, then a major, to the Los Angeles area she got her chance. At first she worked at different Hollywood jolts because her parents, according to press reports, had given her only a few dollars spending money. "This is her own doing," her mother said. "We didn't push her, we just let nature take its course. Evidently, she had this in mind far many vears." But once Sharon decided on acting, the Tates helped her on her way.
