Show Page 8b The Enterprise Review , September 29, 1976 Seminar to Address Estate Planning A seminar on estate planning will be offered next week as a public service by Executive Tax Service. Scheduled to discuss various problems encountered in estates are Richard Gordon and Jay Curtis, local attorneys. Hank Hoole, a chartered life underwriter, will assist in the presentation. The seminar will be held Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Granite Room of the Prudential Plaza, 3300 South State Street. Prison Plans Expensive Continued from page 6b Utah is one of a number of states which operate correctional programs under indeterminate sentence laws. A wide range of time is covered in a court sentence (e.g. five to twenty years), and the exact time of a prisoners release is decided by a parole board. Some other states impose flat sentences, setting forth a specific time to be served, but providing time off for California good behavior. has adopted a program under an indeterminate sentence law, where prison authorities and the prisoner agree on a release date that cannot be advanced, but can be set back if the inmate seriously violates prison rules. Utah prison authorities are closely following the California experience. The Foundation report notes that on a number of occasions, commission of a heinous crime in Utah has resulted in a special study ,and report aimed at correcting conditions which allowed the crime to be committed. Initial public reaction has been strongly supportive of such programs, but public support often has evaporated when faced with the problem of providing money to carry out recommendations in the reports.
