Glen and Doris Benson, Saturday evening Dec. 10. This special dinner was enjoyed by 38 family members those being, grandparents LeRoy A in and Wilma Cooley, father grand- Benson; Royden aunts Hazel Rigby, Norma Christensen, Mildred Suther- land; Cleo Smith, Eunice Cooley, Max and Cora Cooley and four children. Bob and Elaine Jones and four children, from Newton Norris and Virginia Cooley and 2 children from Providence, Mark, Annette, Andrea, and Byran Benson from Newton and the Benson family, Glen, Doris, Jolene, Julia and Kent, Janet, Craig, M.J. and Brad. On Sunday evening Dec. 11 an open house was held at his home in honor of Brad Benson after his farewell program at Sacrament meeting. The Newton Club held their annual Christmas Social at the Colony Room at the University Center at USU. A smorgasbord dinner was enjoyed by 48 members and their Young-Homemaki- , husbands as guests. The special speaker was Dr. Malouf who spoke on Har- - mony In The Home." Carolers from the Calico Choral" group presented entertainment with Christmas Carols. Newton Ward Homemaking Day was held on Tuesday with Audrey Skabelund presenting the lesson. Vickey Jenkins gave some very beneficial tips beautification on caring for our Christmas trees and being cautious to save hazards. Joy Larsen, Homemaking leader gave instructions for the Christmas projects to be made for the days activities. Pat Derick assisted with the many fun projects of the day those being salt dough decorations, felt Dallas Cowboys wall decorations Cotton snowman and lady and many other fun Christmas projects. Many ward Relief Society ladies had brought Christmas goodies and these were on display and sampled by everyone along with many Christmas ideas displayed. A special delicious luncheon was served to everyone on long gailey decorated tables which was prepared by Kathy Benson, Lois Benson, Lonetta Benson, May Benson Mary Benson and Diane Blotter. Those having a birthday in December and present were honored and seated at a special table. Those being honored and given a special gift prepared by Opal Clarke, birthday hostess were Berniece Ashley, Diane Blotter, Lonnie Maughan, Shelia Schreck, Qarren Ballard, Berneice Rasmussen, Marva Richardson, Letha Taylor, MarDene Sorensen, Ann Sutherland, Debra Sutherland, Bessie Benson, Betty Goodsell, Carol Larsen, Cynthia Roundy. Joy Larsen Jennie Lai sen, DeNiece Phelps, and Pamela Lamont. Friday evening the Newton Ward Primary held their annual Christmas social at the Newton Ward Cultural Hall under the direction of Presidency Helen Rigby, Margret Griffin, Carol Larsen and Jeanette Jorgensen. This special First Security Bank SaithfisU and delicious ham dinner prepared by the presidency and some of the teachers was served and enjoyed at long gailey Christmas decorated tables to over 75 guests. The tables were decorated by Mary Mullen, Susan Petersen, Sue Griffin, Marlene Larson. Those setting up chairs and tables were Janet Seeley Helen Cooley, Glenna Petersen and Diane Jenkins. Favors were made by Leda Sutherland, Jean Roundy, Marsha Shelton, Ruby Woodward and Charlene Benson, the invitations were prepared by Sandy Easely, Diane Blotter, LaGene Griffin. Teachers assisting with the food were Shirley Clements, Lynn Roundy, Claudia Tribe, Vickey Jenk ins, Veda Salisbury, Edlena Smith and Diane Rigby. A Christmas program was presented by the Primary ward workers. A piano and organ duet of Christmas music was played by Glenna Petersen and Ruby Woodward, a selection of Christmas stories and poems were given by Susan Petersen, an accordian solo of Christmas songs was played by Veda Salisbury, a double vocal trio Diane Jenkins, LaGene Griffin, Carol Larsen, Glenna Petersen, Jean Roundy, Margret Griffin, sang Mary's Lullabye "Star-brigh- t" Silent Night", accompanied by Ruby Woodward. A selection of Christmas music was played by the Joy and Ruby Woodward family with Judy at the piano, Jed and Jay on the coronet, Jeanine on the orchestra bells and tamborine, Jill on the bells. Ruby playing the accordian and musical rhythmn blocks. Honored guests present were the Bishop Max Christiansen and his wife Donna, Jay G. Rigby and the past Primary Presidency and their husbands, those being, Peggy and Grant Salisbury, Doris and Glen Benson, Joy and Joe Larsen, Cora and Max Cooley, and music director Lois Jones and her husband George, and Sharon (teachers) Marva Richardson and Mike Maughan (unable to attend was) (a teacher) Janice and Dole Benson. The Presidency and teachers were presented a potted plant for their many years of service, Peggy having served 22 years, Doris 17 years, Joy 9 years, Cora 7 years, Lois Jones 32 years Sharon Maughan, Marva Richardson 17 years, and Janice Benson 22 vears. Newton Ward Sacrament meeting was conducted by Jay G. Rigby 2nd Counselor. He read the memberships for Randy and Cheryl Christensen. The special speakers for the meeting were Tim Isatt, Smithfield a returned missionary from Pennsylvania and Jay Lower, Smith-fiel- d a returned missionary, and Smithfield Stake High Kent and Nina Despain, Darrell and Charlene Johnson and three children all of Logan and Many other friends and visitors and many ward members. A Christmas family gathering was held at the home of LuDean and Wanda Balls at Hyde Park on Saturday evening December 17. A lovely and delicious potluck supper was served to the 31 family members present. Those attending were. Jerry and Sharon Heather of Nibley and LuDean and Wanda and family. On Saturday evening Dec. Ann Sutherland, Newton was honored on her 20th birthday anniversary by her family at her home. Those who enjoyed the birthday supper with her was her family, and Van. Marsha, Troy, Corey, Amie, Monica, and Melanie Jenkins all of Newton. A birthday cake and many gifts were presented to 17 her. Arriving last evening at the home of their parents Lewis and Cleo Smith to spend the Christmas holidays were Dixie and Morris Poole and three children and Kathy Smith of Los Angeles, Calif. On Monday Jackie Leavitt and 2 sons of Cedar City also arrived at the Smith home to join with family members for the holiday season. A boy born Saturday, Dec. 10 is the first child for Linda and Kevin Yeates of Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Yeates, Logan, are Kevins parents. Linda is the daughter of Lynn Hawkins, Pocatello, Ida., and Mrs. Joyce Hope of Shelley, Ida. A sales convention on the island of Kauai in Hawaii was attended by two Lewiston couples. Regan and Jon-ett- e Wheeler and Keith and Kathy Karren participated in the four-da- y convention and then spent one day sightseeing in Honolulu.
