Modern Builders Supply has developed over the years first with Lyle Saxton, worke construction ing with of homes. Bob Saxton, a son also joined in the construction business and they are now a partnership as father and son in Modern Builders Supply. The original site was located for 20 years at 36 West 400 South where six homes could be constructed at a time. With 40 homes built last year in those facilities, sales quickly outgrew production: therefore it became obvious that expansion was necessary. A new and larger building began to take shape at its new location on Main Street south of Smithfield. The rectalarge aluminum-sidin- g ngular-shaped building now enhances the valley with which does its not obstruct the view of the mountains. Fourteen modular homes can he handled and processed in the four stages of the main production line of the on-sit- new 60.000 23rd Logan (USU). The plant also has storage facilities for their S300.000 to $500,000 inventory consisting of carpeting, linoleum, appliances, lumber, etc. All materials are ordered from the West Coast but the subcontracting is all owned by local people. There are presently 40 em- ployees, 20 of which work for the subcontractors. A modular home, fully constructed and decorated, can be seen on Main Street. It presently doubles as the Sales Office for interested buyers. In charge of sales is Gary Sorenson and Del Loy Hansen. They are included in a sales staff of five and are assisted by a secretary receptionist, Mary Gage, accountants - Marilynn Hansen and John Titus. Tom Morgan is Office Manager of Production. An additional project that corresponds with the Pine-vieApartment Development is a summer program (June 15 to September 10) designed for couples from Sun City, Arizona, to lease an -- w apartment. Most couples choose Logan to get away from the heat. One hundred people are presently leasing the Logan apartments. In addition, there are 70 people leasing in Rexburg. The structure for the business consist of Parner-Owner- s Lyle Saxton and son. Boh Saxton, sons Randy Saxton, (visits each Pincview Apartments a week), Jeff Saxton, in charge of final inspection before shipping, daughters Mary Ann Saxton Adams, manager of Pineview Apartments, and Autumn Saxton Cottle's husband. Allen, is employed with the company as a truck driver. All family members live in Smithfield with the exception' of Autumn who resides in Clarkston. Based upon last year's sales. Modern Builders Supply grossed $5 million. Projections for this year are 100 homes to be sold and built. The feature of a modular home is that it is built under controlled factory conditions to protect all materials from weather and to insure the family-or- iented home," buyer a better-buiwith the main feature of no longer waiting for your lt home to be built. contracted. e.g. wiring, plumbing and heating. The third phase is sheet rocking, taping and painting. The final step is carpet and linoleum installation. In an unprecedented three weeks standard time, the modular home is transformed from plan to actuality. The completed home is then moved on four specially designed jacks from the plant to a waiting area ready trailfor shipment. A 65-fo- ot er with air-rid- e suspension is used to transport the home to its new location. No house is constructed without it first being sold. One house is being constructed every other day. All homes are built to conform to the Structural Engineering Bulletin and the Uniform Building Codes of Cache County and Idaho, as well as Federal Housing Standards. Fifty percent of all homes ordered are shipped out of the area and delivered as far away as Idaho and Wyoming.
