Over 200 participants will illustrate how a variety of dances from all corners of the world came to be a part of Americas lifestyle. According to George Week, general chairman of the festival, "Dances have always hqd a place in history. People have danced for a new birth, a wedding or any special occasion. Special dance groups join-- . ing with Alice and George Weeks and the Smithfield Bicentennial dances are: the Calico Company and Folk Dancers from USU directed by Jackie Fulmer and Mrs. Emery Crook; the Nash Doi Club, an Indian Club from Sky View, directed by Dm Dailey ; groups from Idaho, Smithfield and Benson stakes; a group from Ogden, directed by Les and Ruth Fowers. A Mexican group from Salt Lake called the Lucers Folk-loric- o 76 is coordinated by Richard Gomez. worked with Mr. and Mrs. Weeks in teaching the dances. The Charleston, Polka, Ex-- hibition Square and Yankee Doodle will be demonstrated Vause, by the Smithfield Stake ' Young Adults; the Three Step and Tango from Smith-fiel- d Stake; the Schottische, Varsouivienne, Quadrille and Square Dancing by the Merry Mixers and Starliters Dance Clubs from Cache Valley. Others include: Fox Trot, Benson Stake; Waltz and Swing from University Stake; Somba, Rock Swing from Ogden; Cha-Chby a, Darrell and Earlene Gregory, past residents of Smithfield now Salt Lake City, the Ukranian and Bam Dance by the Folk dancers and Modem Dances by the Calico Company, both groups from USU. Smithfield City sponsors the event with Ken Webb, bicentennial chairman and Theoda Downs, chairman of the Historical Heritage Soc- iety of Smithfield organizing the bicentennial projects. . .
