They feel that never a Christmas season passes in the English speaking world but Dickens Christmas Carol is heard or read by thousands of people. Scrooge, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim are almost as much a part of Christmas as holly and Christmas trees. Other North Cache Communities 1,1 975, SMITHFIELD, UTAH 84335 Ezra Taft Benson Dedicates New Hyde Park Chapel his Cache Valley heritage, including early years spent in the valley and his attendance at Utah State University. His wife, a Logan native, accompanied him to the meeting. Others participating in the dedication included President Charles L. Hyde, of North Logan Stake, not now a resident of the Hyde Park community, but a descendant of the first and of subsequent bishops of Hyde Park Ward. Also speaking briefly were Bishops Earl A. McKenna of the First Ward and Ezra J. Nixon Jr. of the Second Ward, Merla Thomas, Second Ward Relief Society president, and Architect R. Fred von Niederhausem. Dedication services for the new Hyde Park chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Saints were held Saturday afternoon. Latter-da- y Elder Ezra Taft Benson, president of the Council of the Twelve of the Church, addressed the combined congregations of the Hyde Park First and Second Wards, whom the building serves, and then offered the dedicatory prayer. Elder Benson spoke of Americas spiritual foundations, and said that church members must live above the sin of the world and the floods of evil. "We can do it. The Lord expects it of us, he said. The Smithfield Young Adults will travel throughout the valley with the presentation. New Truck Purchase Suggested To Lewiston Council Upon examination of the streets and road budget, it appeared that there was sufficient money to cover snow removal for this year. Mayor H. B. Harrison suggested that no road improvements be made for the coming year and that the money appropriated for roads be used to buy a truck. The council agreed to charge the Richmond Utah Stake Seventy Quorum a flat fee of $250 for the use of the building and the films used for a missionary money making project. Mayor Harrison agreed to check with the city attorney on an agreement made with Presto Products three years ago. Presto Products was to reimburse the city for the tax assessment on some property used by Presto. The property has been financed by industrial bonds sponsored by the city and thus has not been assessed property tax. The council unanimously approved the appointment of Nonna A. Bodily, wife of Vertis Bodily, to fill the vacancy on the council re sulting from the resignation of Dr. C. M. Hatch Wilcox who moved to Logan. Mrs. Bodily is the mother of six children and is completing 13 years as a teacher in the Cache County school system. graduate of Moroni High she completed her undergraduate work at BrigA School, ham Young University. She taught in Sanpete County and Franklin County before marrying Vertis M. Bodily in 1952. Her assignments will be given at the next regular meeting on the first Monday in January. Newly elected council members, Stephen Bodily and Anthony Hall, also attended the meeting. On a motion by Dee the council approved a 10 per cent Christmas bonus to city employes. Stephen Sznlt. M. Boyce Pitcher and Ronald P. Hansen appeared before the council and requested a water hook-u- p to the Szott home on 16th West and Both South. Van-Orde- n, ns was granted with the stipulation that a double hook-u- p fee and double monthly service charge be made. The council agreed that this exception to its policy of not selling water to residents outside of the city limits be made because extensive efforts by Szott had been made to provide his own source of water. nuuK-u- p 7:30 p.m. in the Richmond Utah Stake Center. No New Subdivisions Set For Richmond Following considerable deliberation, no new subdivisions were approved, but at the same time the council did not close the door on the possibility of future development. A population chart of the community was reviewed. The original was prepared by the engineers for the sewer system in about 1970. The limitations and capacity of the present sewer system were discussed. Myrtle Cooper gave some Christmas stories. Games were played and Christmas carols were sung by the group. Gifts were exchanged. The next meeting will be Lady Lions Lodge for January 1976. SEVERAL HUNDRED members from Hyde Park First and Second Wards listen to speakers in the spacious chapel dedicated Saturday. A |
