No new science excites me more than electrophysiology. Any medical student who is uncertain about a specialty should consider this one. Medicine since the Thirties has been preoccupied with chemicals. MEDICINE IN the Seventies will multiply its understanding of the electricity which makes you run and the short circuits which make you sick. Every nerve in your body functions in response to an electrical signal. Weve measured your heartbeat with an and your electrocardiograph brain waves with an electroencephalograph, but now we can actually, visually see the aura of lavender light which emanates from your body while you live and vanishes only when you give up the ghost. WE ARE relating the most ancient Chinese science of acupuncture to this newest understanding of electrical force fields within your body. We can deploy the electricity in you to light a light bulb. Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, Pa., has developed a pacemaker heartbeat regulator which requires no batteries; it is activated by electricity generated within your body. The University of Wisconsin has discovered that electrical current can .. be adapted to reduce or eliminate breast cancer in laboratory animals. American scientists are increasingly excited about the possibilities of regulating youi bodys electricity much as wt have already learned to control, within limits, your bodys NOW Cacfje YOUR BODY'S generator is phenomenally efficient and reliable. The human brain in its normal waking state emits electrical energy, or beta waves, 18 cycles per minute. When drunk or asleep, your brain slows to 10 cycles per minute and emits alpha waves. But individual cells and collections of cells in the body can short-circu- it and become electrically out of balance. Some Mexican cardiologists believe they can rebalance such cells and prevent some heart attacks. The theorize that the relationship between your chemistry and your electrical system it similar to that in your automobile. The battery must have a proper chemical balance to generate a prescribed level of electrical current. WITH A photographic device costing less than $50, Stanford Universitys Prof. William Tiller had photographed the electrical halo around human fingertips. Some have more, some less halo. Faith healers, when tested, have a smaller glow after -- healing by touch than before whatever that may indicate. And the male-femal- e touch in some instances attracts, in others repels. Some people are said to have because green thumb to their touch. plants respond Now we can prove some do. Of course, there is much debate over what the electricity in you is and does. But the Russians, ahead of us in some aspects of this research, are said to be detecting diseases in plants and animals well in a advance of traditional diagnostic methods electrically.
