Show I ti r ii J. . .. n.;4 f t i i i v.fr ,f, J' JJ l.vi- - :iy, ua:i jiioi Rural development group in Uintah Basin IS B QBl Tlie term "cold cash" Is aptly applied to our currency today because none of us can hold onto It long enough to get It warm. Talk about repurcuslons, caused by one word! The vocational school picture In the state Is really blurred at the present time, because of one word In a bill passed by the recent state legislature. In the bill, which was designed to make It possible for students to get college credit for certain classes In the vocational field, and place these schools under the supervision of the state board of vocational education, Is being Interpreted somewhat different. The bill contained the words control and "management" of vocational centers, and for that reason the state board now says they will do the hiring, the firing, the outlining of curriculum, etc., for all centers In the state. The local school boards obtained and matched federal funds to build the center, and have used local funds to equip the different areas for the students. Now, the state board says It Is theirs, liecause of the "management" word. Legislators say this was not their Intent. They Intended that It be under the control of tlie state board for correlation, supervision, etc. But some school hoards, Including the Duchesne loard, are voicing loud opposition to the take-ove- r. To date they have refused to hand over the hard fought for Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center to the state group. There should be some Interesting fireworks before this bill Is legally clariBut to the loral board members, fied. we say, "Stick to your guns". And this raises an Interesting observation. Will a Mil, passed by a state legislative group, stand up In a court of law when Its working defies the original Intent of the lawmakers? It will be Interesting to find out. Always demand the might get It! lest. You Just There's a lot of beauty In this here Basin. Take for Instance the UBIC beauty pageant last weekend. Eighteen girls competed for honors In Iwauty, talent and personality, and It was a tough Job for Judges to come up with just to those Involved Congratulations with this outstanding pageant. It proves that there arc some people willing to spend a lot of time and effort for the enjoyment of others.
