The project neared fruition last week as advertisements for bids were published. County officials even had hopes that the work could have been started last summer, but delay after delay plagued the planning, until it began to look as if the work might not even get underway this summer. But preliminary work on and engineering have now been completed, and bid will be opened August 3. The new project is important to the overall improvement plan for county roads. It is part of the federally designated collector system for the county, and will eventually continue on south from Monarch, down through the cove and connect with the paved section which was completed west of Roosevelt two right-of-wa- ys years ago. Not only does the collector road serve the farming areas in the Hancock Cove, Cedarview and Monarch, but it is also the main artery through the Bluebell oil field. With the develop- ment of the oil field the past few years, traffic movement has been greatly hampered by the lack of adequate roads in the area. The section now being advertised, which will run 3.4 miles west of Neola, will place an im GES33D Paid In Advance Two Yearn. 88.50 0330 qhOjGElesu Loillae Roberta JoAnn Baatian Afton Rogcra Lillie Bigelow Mra. The collector system, although part of the county road network, is buitl with the help of federal funds. Adding to the overall improvement of roads in the Neola area will be the completion of the state highway between Neola and Roosevelt. This work is to begin within the next few weeks, replacing the present road which has suffered severe damage during the past few years. With the completion of these two projects, it will add one more section of the county which is served by adequate highways. Although hampered by inadequate funding, improved county roads have reached most farming communities. Paved roads are now serving more and more areas, with plans calling for additional paving work on county roads as funds are available. With the increase in county assessed valuations, due primarily to the development of the oil fields, it is hoped that funding increases will also be realized in order to keep pace with road improvement needs. We feel, however, that the county officials are cognizant of road needs throughout the county, and are doing all they can to see that all residents are being served with the best possible road network. And the road west from Neola is a vast step in this improvement plan. Visitors at the Calvin Squires lome over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. LyleSqulres and family from Layton. Mr. and Mra.
