Plans were made for the Head Start program for the coming year. Is ft worth our continued support? With the county fair over, and Labor Day coming up this weekend, it stands to reason that the summer is gone, and school will soon start. Elementary, Jr. High and High School students in this area will begin classes next Tuesday morning. Another facet of the educational process will also begin soon here in the Basin. This is classes at the Uintah Basin Center for Continuing Education registration is planned for next week. This school year marks the third season for the UBCCE. It is a crucial period, and future growth of the college facility depends to a great extent on the support it receives. During the long drive to obtain some type of higher education facilities for the Basin, it was felt by all supporters that the greatest need of the college would be to provide an opportunity for continued education to many of the young people who would not otherwise be able to avail themselves of this privilege, and also to offer classes nearer home for many of the other students, in order to retain some of the economic power within the Basin, rather than draining it off to the metropolitan communities. Although the support of the Center has been excellent, and even beyond the hopes of many of the backers during the past two years, it is felt that the support being offered by students just leaving high school still leaves much area for improvement. It is true that there is not the glamor or excitment Head Start classes to start Sept. 2nd Head Start classes are scheduled tobe-Kl- n Tuesday, September 2. Parents are Invited to bring their children on that day as In the past to get aqualnted with the teachers and classrooms. Buses will run and a light refreshment will be served. Parents of new children to the program will have opportunity to fill out the required personal Information forms at this time. Registration of children in the three to five year old age bracket has been conducted since August 18 In a house to house survey by teachers. A goal fur enrollment for Head Start JOIN of the large campus, and there the fact that students feel the is. getting away from Weekend visitors at the Ern Odeklrk's were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Odeklrk, Kearns the fact remains that although the college is now in its infancy, lacking this glamor, It can grow into something which will prove very enticing for students. If we want to look forward to the day when these facilities are offered to our children and grandchildren, we must realize the support that is needed, now. During the past two seasons, a great deal of support has been offered by adults filling various educational needs. At the present time, however, many of these people have completed the courses they need, or have gone as far as they can here and will therefore not be entering school this fall. For this reason it is important that greater young student support is given. A list of possible classes to be offered through the Center is being published this week. Prospective students are urged to look over the list, and decide for themselves whether or not they can obtain the basic classes needed for their careers, and still enjoy greater personal help, the services of top teachers in the field, and still obtain this at much less expense to themselves and their parents. The Uintah Basin Center for Continuing Education is important to the Basin. It was important enough for many people to spend much time over a period of years seeking its establishment Is it important enough for us to spend some effort seeking and offering continued support and growth to this facility? and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Odeklrk, Gran- need for home for a least a year. But has been set at 180 children this year. of the total enrollment may Up to 10 Involve children of families with above the poverty-lin- e incomes. These guidelines are set up by the National Head Start Organization. "We would be glad to have any parent contact us at Head Start office, telephone: if we have failed to register their child. Your application will be accepted and your child assigned to a center." said Jason Cuch, Director. Children enrolled in the program must be 3 years old by October 15 for those living In Uintah County and September 30 for those living in Duchesne County. All children who are five years old or who will reach that age by the dates mentioned above should attend their local school kindergarten program. 722-22- DEALER O Here's your chance to cash in big on the snowmobile boom winter's family sport.
