Over fifty teachers from Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah counties participated In a reading workshop at Roosevelt Junior high school on August 21 and 22. The language experience approach In reading was demonstrated by Marl Lou Olsen with primary and Intermediate grade students. Mrs. Olsen who Is a demonstration teacher for the Granite reading center, described this personalized approach to learning as the art of raising the sensitivity of children to their surroundings. Because students are accepted where they are, they learn to accept themselves. Each child Is successful every day, and success Is a prerequisite for learning. Growth In the child Is the foremost concern, and growth Is evidenced by the ability to see A more, hear more, and feel more. higher inner quest (L Q.) is attained when students are lead rather than trapped Into learning.
