Show THE CITIZEN 0 young and old. The program has been carried through to a great, extent, but much remains to be done. The Civic Center today is the admiration of home-fol- k and visitor. The future of the Civic Center is being carefully mapped out. San Francisco today has the finest Civic Center of modem construction in all the world, dominated by the City Hall. As the Center stands today it comprises of the City Hall, the Exposition Auditorium, the City Library, State Building and beautiful open spaces with profusion of flowers. There is under construction the War Memorial, which will stand opposite the city hall on the west. The War Memeorial will consist of a group of buildings, such as museum and meeting halls and a grand opera house. The Federal Government has pro- vided for the erection of a splendid building in the Civic Center, and the city officials are likewise planning another building to care for the courts, another building for the health department and perhaps another structure to care for the exec 3 utive offices of the fire department. The present buildings represent an outlay of millions and many more millions have been provided for by bond issue and donations to carry on the work of adding to the Center to properly take care of the City and County government. San Franciscos Civic Center comprises some ten square blocks, and adjoining it is the spacious and modem athletic field of the Commercial High School and the school itself, harmonizing with the general beautification scheme. Los Angeles is engaged at present in the development of its civic cent- er. At present, two units are completed. The Hall of Justice and the City Hall only recently have been finished, with a dozen more buildings to go up if the program is carried out to its completion. Los Angeles, like the other two cities, has taken land from its most valuable section to build up its civic center. The Los Angeles property is at the northern part of the business section. The buildings that have gone up are permanent and beauti ful, completed in the modern style of architecture. Like Denver and San Francisco, Los Angeles is consolidating its administration and recreational facilities in a single unit. Next week: Salt Lake's Civic We know now that spring is near because now is the time you can buy your winter clothes so cheaply. One comfortable thing in being poor is that you don't have to worry every week about the increase or decrease in brokers' loans. Pat Harrison in the Senate pressed great sympathy for the newspaper reporters who had to wait outside Mr. Hoovers home in the snow but we notice that he didnt offer to buy them any galoshes. A lot of folks would rather get Uncle Sam into the League of Nations one way or another than to get into Heaven themselves. Two views of San Franciscos civic auditorium at the civic center. Below is an interior scene of a typical gathering. Right, a beautiful glimpse through archway in the City Hall. an Cl a tj if4 I) i Mt MS. a g ft 3 jf O 0 , r. 3ggSS33aS3Z5SIra ex- mj |
