Show THE CITIZEN 2 PROVED PROTECTION versus ( PROMISES 99 Continued Good Times versus Depression THESE ARE THE ISSUES TIME is now near when the people of Utah and of THE will decide upon the nature of government they want for the next four years. It is a decision that should be made calmly, deliberately and seriously, for it affects your welfare, your prosperity, your childrens happiness, your familys hopes! The prosperity of Utah's industries farms, ranges, mines and factories depends upon the Republican policy of adequate tariff protection. Senator King has always opposed Utahs welfare by voting against the protective tariff. He calls this tariff iniquitous, infamous, damned before it is born, destined to damnation during its lifetime, .and doomed to damnation and obloquy after its death. Can you expect protection from a man who holds views like that? Do you want to support a man who heaps abuse on the principle that is the life-blo- REPUBLICAN TICKET National Washington for another six years to obstruct, hinder and embarrass Utahs Republican delegation in their efforts to safeguard your interests? Dont be deceived by smooth-tongue- d oratory. Compare the mans campaign promises with his record! Has he promised protection and encouragement to Utahs welfare ? In Utah, yes ; but in Washington, nearly 3000 miles away, he acts against your interests ! Utah needs a new junior Senator Ernest Bamberger who will help, not hinder, Reed Smoot in the Senate. And Utah needs a governor who is in harmony with the stand of his partys national leader on the big issues of the day. What is Governor Derns attitude toward his partys leader? Nobody knows. Is he a Republican nationally and a Democrat at home? Which way will he jump? Who knows? One thing is sure: If something should happen in the next four years to take Reed Smoot out of the Senate, and if Governor Dern is still in office, he would appoint a Democrat to take Senator Smoots place. Can Utah look upon such a possibility with composure? Can Utah permit such a travesty to take place? Election of William H. Wattis will safeguard Utah against this thing. Lets make very sure that a Republican is the next occupant of the governors chair. Lets hold fast to the proved Republican principles our only For President HERBERT HOOVER dependable assurance of continued prosperity. This is no time to place our trust in the hands of those who offer experimental and risky promises. Lets keep and strengthen the Republican protection for Utahs welfare !
