It is surprising how useful old people can be when they feel they are needed! Give them a chance! .'iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaiiiiiiiiiiifliiBiiiiiiii'iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill,l. n. Fairvlew, Sanpete County. At a mass meeting of the two wards of the L. D. S. church, it was decided to erect a new meeting house to cost around $12,750. The structure will be of brick and modern.- John C. Howard, president of the Utah Oil Refining company, states his company will spend between $750,000 and $1,000,000 in increasing of the plant. BY FAY KING 1926 In this day when such exaggerated stress is laid on youth and pep it is discouraging indeed for an older person to look for work! The help wanted columns are filled with calls asking for young people, and every branch of employment is filled with youth. To be full of years is almost looked upon as crime in this age, and many a bright, spry, willing, faithful soul is turned away from an office because his appearance belies his ability! Yet all the most important positions in life are filled with older people, Our presidents, our able judges, our worthy city fathers, our great lawyers our railroad presidents, our scientists, our philosophers, our editors, our bankers, ambassadors and merchant princes are men of years! Who would call Judge Landis old? Not any one who has watched him outwalking a young Red Cap in a railroad station. The employer who thinks his place of business gives a better appearance because of the youth he employs is mistaken, unless that youth is exceptionally efficient and ambitious. How many customers are lost through the earless impudence of youth? Tact is more valuable than pep! How many young men employed in good positions take an interest only in their pay envelopes, and dont care whether they stay or quit, because they know being YOUNG and making a good APPEARANCE they can get another job in a jiffy! Even if a young and ambitious employe is all that he should be, he is apt to be looking for something better all the time and will leave the first chance he can better himself. An older man, happy for this belated opportunity, will give all the best of himself and remain loyal and faithful! Dignity and respect come with years and their influence is often worth more than overwhelming energy and the impatience of youth. This is not to condemn the worthy youths who work well and who are reliable, but youth in itself is not enough. Ability should not be overestimated because of youth, any moe than it should be underestimated because of age! If you are in position to employ people do not turn a man away because he is not young! Years are lifes greatest educators, and he has learned much that will be valuable. He has eliminated much that would be detrimental! The fact that he is not a greater success at hi3 years and must still work for others is probably not so COMING WEST Whether it ture or for marble to grace the building turrets overhanging its canyon like streets, the East comes to the Pacific Coast and the Southwest to get it. be talc for beauty cul- According to G. T. Sielaff, Southern Pacifics chief geologist, the company has now compiled a collection of over 800 private properties holding commercial minerals in Oregon, California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Some of the finest tab for face powders and building marble comparable to the famous marbles of Italy are available on properties which the railroad can serve, according to the list compiled by Sielaff. The properties listed offer a variety of more than minerals. This information is made available by the railroad through various organizations for the benefit of manufacturers who are seeking mineral products. Parties having mineral properties may list them with the railroad. Two years ago a preliminary 65 survey was made of the mineral resources along the railroad's lines. The list now includes nearly all minerals required by modern manufacturers.
