MINE. ORE RECORD. General Manager Cecil Fitch of the Chief Consolidated mine, properties has made a very favorable report for the first quarter of the year, which President George W. Lambourne of the Park City Mining & Smelting Company willl eave today for Denver, where the stockholders of the company will hold a meeting Monday, and stockholders will meet the Park-UtaMay 28 in Jersey City, N. J. President Lambourne says the two companies will break all ore shipping records the present month, the shipments already exceeding that of any previous date. QUIET REIGNS ON STOCK EXCHANGE AT PRESENT Silver Producers Will Try to Secure Reverse Ruling on Coinage Question. shows the following: ft The past two weeks have been rather quiet on the Salt Lake Stock Exchange for rather no particular reasons. Metals are high and all the mines are working to nearly capacity . and things ought to be booming on the exchange. Money seems a little tight at present, but a change is bound to come in the near future. Business is booming in all the mining camps and there is a great deal of building going on in this city, the results of which will soon be felt. Labor has gone through a hard winter and it will take two or three months for the men to get even with the board and the time is near at hand when they will have a little change left over after paying their debts. Silver producers are making an effort to induce the secretary of the treasury to reverse his ruling regarding the allocution of silver for subsidiary coinage, under which the amount of silver to be purchased under the terms of the Pittman act at $1 per ounce was reduced to the extent of 12,-931,4- ONTARIO. General Manager Ernest Bamberger of the Ontario Silver Mining Company of Park City has given out the anual report of the company, which shows a deficit of $58,680 for operations the past year. Most of this money was spent in puting the mine in shape for future operation and already results have been secured in discovering several ore bodies and there is every indication that the mine will make big money the present season. The company has a surplus of working capital and is in fine financial condition for exploration 5 W'ork. RUBBER. Manager Ellerbeck of the Guarantee & Rubber Company says that there has been another drop in crude rubber which will no doubt affect the trade later on. Many more tires have been manufactured in the agregate than are used, and with the extras put on the market a slump will naturally follow. GASOLINE. Q $24,-864.9- 0. $3910.55 and $18,802.82. fthe company as of March 31, 1923, shows current assets of $530,935.59, a Liberty bond investment of $265,109.45, and cash on hand of $207,927.26. The surplus account of the company as of December 31 amounts to $2,116,748.56, which, with the net earnings of the first quarter, minus dividend No. 35 of $89,21.50, was increased to $2,371,860.50. Metal production of the company for the quarter was: 3,586 ounces; 1,401,-58- 7 ounces; 8,314,166 pounds; 213,569 pounds; 21,263 pounds; 43,401 pounds. Operations in the Chief Consolidated and the Grand Central returned a net profit after payment of all charges of, respectively, $334,030.91 and The report for the Gemini and Eureka-Hill mine shows a Joss of the Gasoline prices continue on the downward course, but the prices of this city take the lead for high and are much above the average through- out the country. The production of 630,701,355 gallons for March was. a now high record and far above the monthly consumption which is estimated at 440,000,000 gallons. The mining committee of the Chamber of Commerce has planned an inspection trip to Alta June 17. George H. Watson is working out the details of the trip. Any one interested in mining will be given a free trip to the camp in automobiles, which will leave early in the morning. County Commissioner Burgon will put the road in good shape for the summers traffic, which will make the trip easy. An admirable opportunity will be af- forded those interested in the geology of the Cottonwood district to study the formation at first hand under the guidance of recognized authorities on Alta. It will probably be possible to visit some of the underground workings of the mines in Alta. A barbecue will be held at noon. Invitations are to be extended to Governor Mabey, Mayor Neslen and other state, city and county officials. Other trips planned for the summer are to Park City, to Eureka and to Bingham. Members of the Salt Lake Stock and Mining exchange have already assured the mining committee with the plan for their educating the public to a realization of the importance of the Utah metal mining industry and of the great resources that still are undeveloped. on ALTA TUNNEL. The Alta Tunnel in Big Cottonwood has secured enough materials and blasting powder to enable it to resume work. Superintendent J. W. Karns says that the works are within striking distance of several largo ore veins. h CANNING FACTORIES. If presen t plans are carried out, nearly all of Utahs canning factories and those of Colorado will consolidate under one head having assets of The factories would have an anual output capacity of 3,000,000 cases. Under consolidation the running expenses of office and factories will be materially reduced and a subsequent increase of profit on the goods sold. . STREETCAR MEN. The streetcar men and the Utah have Light & Traction company agreed upon a working plan for the coming year with the present wage scale to remain in force. The mini J mum wage is 45 cents per hour wtih '52 cents the maximum. Nothing definite was agreed upon as to the one-ma- n car, as there is now a case pending in the district court to decide whether the company has the right to run cars with but one man on each. car system is installed, If the one-ma- n the carmen will receive a raise of 5 cents per hour.
