Christianity, democracy, Only and even Leagues of Nations, if founded on the right principles, will help to make men really regard one another as brothers under the Fatherhood of God. P to date Christianity has been a white man's religion. Long ago it was carried into Japan and China by heroic missionaries but has made little progress. Outside of the white world it has not appealed to those who ruled the destinies of peoples, nor does it appear that it has made a specially strong appeal to the peoples themselves. Apparently, however, its progress among the The dark-skinne- dark peoples they must acquire the Ideal that their rule is only a stewardship and that one day the peoples of these lands are to be free and independent T dark-skinne- d races is becoming more rapid. Democracy is beginning to make its way among the Asiatics. The Chinese, always democratic in spirit, have established a republic on what appears to be an enduring foundation. Democracy is an Invention of the Western World and the very fact that it is understood and appreciated today in the Eastern World is a good omen. The white and the yellow races, however, must change their system if rP HE only other solution appears 10 be out of the question. It is the solution contained in the white mins theory in our own South before the war the theory that the white man was made to rule inferior races and that God had destined the inferior races to be slaves. That doctrine is not accepted in the Eastern World. On the contrary it is resisted with force of arms wherever and whenever subject races feel , dition, and in progress there is always hope. We seem to see the course progress is taking. At present we are engaged in the industrial struggle, trying to find out what are the rights of jmen and their duties toward one another. If we solve that problem justly we need not despair of solving the problem of good will among men. If we look forward to a clash of the yellow and white races it is because we are basing our forecast on physical conditions. We are not taking into account changes beyond our ken. Neither Walter Rathenau nor any other man can predicate a world war on conditions that do not exist and which we cannot even foresee. In fifty years civilization, guided by religion, democracy and science, may have produced conditions which will insure in. temational good will. The dark races are resisting the imperialistic-policies of Great Britain. Formidable revolutions continue in India and Egypt. There is no sign anywhere that the yellow or black races will consent to be ruled forever by the white races. Civilization is a progress, not a con Oh, Aunty, can 'I make a bet?
