Show aff SPLENDID PAPER the webb henderson health contest conducted at tile the high school friday night was a splendid exhibition ot of what students can do in the way of giving advice for the betterment of health and civic conditions the ten papers presented were little short of master es and evidenced tile the fact that the students have given tile the matter very careful consideration and arrived at their conclusions through a scientific dissection of the subject matter at hand tife the prize winners in their order were alice eddy lydia Ho lingren and minnie Ho lingren miss eddy discussed mental hygiene and for her effort received fifteen dollars in ill gold miss aliss lydia Ho holmgren lingren elaborated upon the transmission of disease through plies flies and such an abundance of data was given that the judges awarded her the ten dollar prize while her sister minnie blinnie came along with a splendid discussion of brigham cites water supply and was awarded the five dollar prize other papers given were nere as follows the menace of inactivity by miss alda aida crawford the citizen and public health by mr air ephraim josephson Josephs effect of posture on health by miss guinivere kotter fighting trim by miss aliss lillie mae alae rees the cost of good health by mr air orlando anderson our local milk supply by mr air eugene forsgren facts and problems on oil rabies by miss aliss octavo holmgren each paper was a gem an and worthy of publication which lack of space forbids but the facts given in some of them especially on our local water and milk supply were startling and illustrates just what this community is up against scarcely less sensational were the facts on the prevalence of rabies and the transmission of disease by flies the other papers dealt mostly with the health condition of the individual and some splendid rules were given for the maintenance of health and the prolonging of life lud E ud aati ity c the promoters of 0 the contest prof 11 II E webb and dr D W henderson announced that they would give another contest next year and possibly the institution may be made a permanent feature at the high school dr T B beatty secretary of the state board of health was present and acted as one of tile the judges ile he was loud in his praise of the papers and complemented ted the students unstintingly the other judges were dr R T willey and prof louis the at was not as large as it should have been and it required nearly three hours to hear all the papers and the decision of the judges some splendid musical numbers were rendered by the high school brass quartet |
