The ASC Duchesne County committee election will be conducted from November 22, to December 2, by mail ballot. ASC Committees are responsible for managing government farm programs on the local level, and to meet the needs of individual producers, ASC committee members must be concerned and responsible individuals, Mr. Allen said. Duchesne County farmers have the ripportunity to nominate persons they feel would best serve the farm memorandum Bruce Lindall, area conservationist for the soil conservation service of Provo, recently presented Charles Crosier, chairman of the Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District, the basic memorandum of understanding, signed by the secretary of agriculture. The presentation resulted from an updating of a long range program of the district, and outlines what the department will do for the SCD and what SCD responsibilities 'will be to the department. The Census Bureau tells us that during the last of December some 4.5 million report forms will be mailed to U.S. farmers and ranchers, asking that the forms be filled in and returned as soon as possible," he said. At that time each county ASCS office will have material on hand to help farmers' questions about the questionnaire," he added. Mr. Allen believes that farmer nominations of candidates for the upcoming ASC committee election are very important. lie said, Farmers should petition for and elect those individuals they feel would do a good job as ASC committeemen. The election of concerned farmers to positions on ASC committees is necesary for good administration of farm programs." Mr. Allen further explained that the county ASCSoffice welcomes all valid petitions. The opportunity to nominate, vote, and be elected to office is guaranteed to all farmers regardless of race, religion, sex, color, or national origin. Farmers should have community. received petitions forms by mail and can begin submitting them to the county ASCf office. A few basic considerations should be kept in mind when circulating petitions, Mr. Allen said. In order to be valid, petitions must be limited to the one nominee each, must include written certification that the nominee is willing to serve if elected, must be signed by at least three eligible farm voters in the ASC community, and must be received in the county ASCS office no later than October 29. A farmer may circulate or sign for as many nominating petitions candidates as he chooses.
