Show TABIONA Mr. Connie Lee . . . Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Turnhow and family of Salt Lake came to visit Mr. and Mrs. Leo Turnliow and family a week ago for Leo's birthday. I failed to put his name in a week ago with the other sons, So sorry about that slip Doyle. Visitors this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Defa were their three daughters of Salt Lake; Gladys Colvin, Ruby Roberts, Collie Josie, Mr. and Mrs. lone Josie just moved into their new home in West Jordan this past month. Also visiting the Defas were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Chatwin, Orem, lie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Chatwin, Orem. They were one time residents of this area. Kim Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jones left Thursday morning at 10 a.m. from the Salt Lake airport for his 2 year mission to England. His family and friends were there to bid him a happy mission. Joe Hurt, son of Mr., and Mrs. Gene Hurt left for the Eastern States for a two year mission at 7:110 a.m. Thursday from the Salt Lake airport. All of his family, relatives and friends were there to bid him good bye. Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Rhoades were in Salt Lake Monday of this week on business and to do a little shopping. They also saw their family in Salt Lake as well as lrovo. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark spent three sessions at the Irovo Temple Wednesday of this week. Word was received lust weekend that Clifford Van Tassell was in the LDS hospital in Salt Lake and received lung surgery Thursday morning. He is in intensive rare unit at the hospital Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lee and family, Orem, spent Saturday and Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Hurnell Turnliow. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jones spent Monday in Salt Lake on business and slopped in to see Cliff Van Tassell at the LDS hospital. They were not able to see him as only the family are permitted at 848-257- 7 the present time. Mrs. Grace Giles returned home after spending a week in the city consulting her doctor and taking tests. She also visited her family and other relatives that were ill while there. Word was received that Marvel Pace was able to come home after almost three weeks in the hospital after sufferring a heart attack. At this time she is doing a little better and gradually getting her health back although she is still confined to her bed. Visitors this past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wall and family were his parents, Carlile and Lucille Wall and his sister Dorene all of Santaquin. Mrs. Carol Fabrizio was released as Relief Society work director Sunday at Sarrament meeting passed on and sustained in her place was Enid Wagstaff. Enid will be in charge of the new minisewing classes that the Relief Society is starting the second Thursday in February at work day. This is teaching class all over the church to help people learn to sew and make their families clothing. They invite all the ladies of the ward to come and join in this new class. They will have home nursing classes taught by LaNae Parks for all who wish to sign up. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Broadhead and family of Sandy visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Carlile and family. This community was saddened by the death this past week of Hildur Brooks and Warren L. Potter. Both very good friends and relatives to some. Warren Potter lived here with his father and then with Mr. and Mrs. Foster Rhoades and attended school at Tabiona. The people from our area offer sympathy to both families at this time. Leadership meeting will be held at Duchesne Thursday for all officers and teachers of the Relief Society. They will meet at 12:30 at the church and rides will be provided for all who should be in attendance. Charlene Wagstaff, Ogden visited with her parents this past week. Her father had been ill in the hospital. He is home and doing much better. Mrs. Jane Davidson mother of Janette Turnbow celebrated her 95th birthday last Tuesday in Salt lake with a family party. Janette attended the party for her mother. Mrs. Davidson is staying with a daughter in Springville and reports her health is very good for her age. Mrs. Pam Jones spent a few days in the Duchesne County hospital this past week. They report her feeling a lot better. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Van Tassell left for Burley, Ida., to spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Brent Chugg. They will see their new grandson named at Sacrament meeting Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Defa will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday Feb. 5. Their children are planning a dinner celebration in Salt Lake for this occasion. All their neighbors, friends and relatives in this area wish them the best for this anniversary. We are very glad that Clista is enjoying better health as well as Andrew at this time. Mr. Morrell and his wife were honored by a family dinner on Sunday at the Caughron home with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Halstead, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Moon and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Merkley. In Salt Lake last week for a nurses workshop were Mrs. Dixie Brown and Mrs. Laura Mecham; attending with 1 Mr. and Mrs. Deloy Richens home was broken into one day last week while everyone was away. Also several other homes in the vicinity have been broken into. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Hogan and daughter Tina Marie were weekend guests at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Jensen have purchased a trailer house and they and their small daughter, Nancy Lyn have moved to Vernal. The Avalon Ladies Club held a meeting at the home of Mrs. Cloe Brough Thursday, January 24. A lecture on first aid was presented. Eddie Jensen ran into a herd of cattle on the road Saturday morning. U.B.A.V.C. to observe national week In preparation for National Vocational Education Week, students representing vocational youth clubs at the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center in Roosevelt met on January 30 to plan their forthcoming activities. The activities, which are open to the general public, will include: (1) an open-hous- e all day at the Vocational Center on Monday and Tuesday, February 11 and 12. (2) An assembly in the Union high school auditorium on Wednesday morning, February 13. The youth club leaders cordially invite anyone interested in vocational education to attend and participate in the activities. The vocational youth clubs at the Vocational Center are DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and VICA (Vocational-Industria- l Clubs of America). It is mainly through youth club envolvement and class instruction that the Co-oprogram has been so successful. The Co-oprogram allows students to work and train on the job during school hours. Students who are placed in training stations for practical experience usually are away from the school campus during the afternoon. The has the responsibility of coordinating the training of the student while he is working in the employing firm. In addition to classroom instruction and training, students participate in the activities of his local chapter of DECA, FBLA, or VICA. All of the activities of these clubs are designed to develop leadership and good citizenship qualities. Anyone interested in learning more concerning the training possibilities in all vocational fields are encouraged to participate in the activities conducted during Vocational Education Week. Mrs. Ruth Green held a jewelry party at her home Friday afternoon. With eight ladies present, guests were her daughter in law, Mrs. Ruth Ann Green and her daughter Anissa Ann, Mrs. Joe McGuffin and Linda Iorg, all of Roosevelt. Refreshments were served following the jewelry display.
